Our text for Communion is John 14… and it highlights something I want to bring out. The remedy to fear, to anxiety is belief in God. After communion, after Judas left, after all these things Jesus is troubled in spirit and so are His disciples, it is dark and they are in the upper room celebrating the last supper during Passover. Jesus had told them His disciples that He was going away and they couldn’t come with Him, communion would be broken - for a time. But He wants to comfort them so He says in verse 1...
John 14:1–6 | 1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
The remedy to fear to anxiety is belief in God. Belief in God, in His word brings about communion with Him. Communion with the Father is contingent upon communing with the One whom He sent. Jesus said if you want to get to the Father you have to go through me, and there is one way, only one way. Do you want communion with Your Maker? Do you believe God? Then you need to go through the One that made it possible. We are going to spend a whole minute in prayer, now. It is a long time, I grant you that. But it is time to confess any outstanding sins. To confess of the evil things we have done and our own inability to do anything about it.
It is time to believe Jesus Christ and what He said, that He is the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but through Him. ONE MINUTE PAUSE CLOSE IN PRAYER
If I could have the communion ushers come up and begin distributing the elements.
