Isaiah:56: 1-8
Background Scripture
Leviticus 13-14 ; luke 5:12-16 ;17:11-19
Leviticus 13:45–46 KJV 1900
And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean. All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.
Luke 17:11–19 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Verse 45
Leviticus 13:45–46 (KJV 1900)
45 And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.
46 All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.
what is Leprosy
leprosy
[ˈleprəsē]
NOUN a contagious disease that affects the skin, mucous membranes, and nerves, causing discoloration and lumps on the skin and, in severe cases, disfigurement and deformities. Leprosy is now mainly confined to tropical Africa and Asia. Also called Hansen's disease.
this is one disease that the Israelite were so afraid of that they considered it to be of a divine affliction or a plague see exodus 11:1

And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether

this same word i s translated as a plague .
enough to frighten them to stay away from anyone that had this particular plague .or leprosy…and for this reason Moses had anyone that was afflicted should always shout out unclean unclean to let others know that had a disease and they could not participate in any religious activities or feasts .in other words don't come around is with that disease .go rent your clothes , ball their head ,and cover their upper lip just like wearing a mask which is now back just like now with covid 19 and its variant. same thing ....
part b . of this verse 46 Social separation
the unclean person or people had to be quarantined all this sounds so familiar with whats going on now you got covid you must quarantine for two weeks but for them that had leprosy were more outcast to an area where they were alone or with others that had the same thing. because once the Israelite made it to the promise land the others were left outside of the promised land on the outskirts of the city. and they were ostracized socially they could not participate in any actives, which almost is like today only these folks with covid no one can go to them and vice versa. but in this case the leprosy was not a contagious disease but the others didn't know thats why they were caste out and the ones caste out life was short for them because they worried that it was so bad of a plague that they just know that they would die from it which wasn't always the case. just the stress and worrying caused all their problems.
II. Cleansed A. (Luke 17:11-14)
lepers request verses 11-13
verse 11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee
what we are about to learn today's lesson is when Jesus makes his last journey to Jerusalem see (Luke 9:51; 19:44)
Luke 9:51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem
Jesus knew that he would be leaving Galilee to go to jerusalem but he was taking the shortest route that most Jews would avoid going just so they would not have to encounter the Samaritans which not of the Jewish heritage ( another form of racism) just wanted to through that in because it existed back then also. which means that its nothing new just they way people take now is different) right or wrong .
verse 12) And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off
remember in Leviticus the lepers were socially distant from the Jews but what we don't know is how many were from Jewish or Samaritans families anyway as Jesus got closer to where they were ten men that had the disease came out to see Jesus but the fact of the matter is they kept their distance from (we don't know if it was 10 ft or more it was just the law that moses had set forth to keep a distance from each other if you had it or didn't have it (meaning leprosy) see Leviticus 13:46 ; or numbers 5:2 . Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is defiled by the dead.
from the looks of this story they stayed outsude of the city Jerusalem and kept their distant but probly had family that would help them that were close by.( with food ,clothing .) and the ones thst didn’t follow the rules about keeping their distance had rocks thrown at them ( thats what we feel like when we go out to get groceries at stores just keep your distance or get something thrown at them it may not be a rock but words can also hurt)
verse 13 13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
(here we go again just like from our last lesson last week we have to call on Jesus when we are in trouble) but looking at the text they did not get close to Jesus they kept their distance and called out to him calling him master not rabbi not lord but called him master as if they were his slaves seeking help but calling him master is only used in Luke's gospel here and in Luke 5:5;8:24,45; 9:33,39 it is a term of respect only used by Jesus's disciples. but with the people with leprosy they knowing a little about jesus called him master out of respect. for who he is lord of lord kink of kings . but as they called out him they did in unison like it was rehearsed because they knew he was going to be passing through, you know in Leviticus they were told to shout unclean but now knowing what jesus can do for them they only cried out in pity looking for mercy to be bestowed upon them. and they already heard of the healing that did for other folks with leprosy (see Luke 5:12-14;7:22

And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. 14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them

22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached

they already knew what mircales Jesus could and they were only seeking for him to have mercy on them. we should also be seeking on Jesus to always call on him to help us knowing what he has done in the past he can still do today all we have to do is call om him........
Part B. Jesus’s Response (v. 14)

And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed

look at this Jesus did not heal them right away instead he gave them an order that required faith (compare 2 Kings 65:10)And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.
Elisha said something simulacra to a man it was an order first but once the man did what Elisha said he was cleansed .
now they had to go and find them a priest to show them the what Jesus had done but i’m sure as they walked looking for a priest they were probably thinking what are we going to show them that we are lepers ,but that's not what happened on their way looking for the priest they were healed .can you imaged walking and having the faith knowing what Jesus can do then all of a sudden you are healed . what a God we serve. so all we need is to have faith that wounder word faith. will make it all right. just think now they can go back to a normal life once again to be with family friends with all leprosy gone back to the way they were.(so if we all put our faith in jesus maybe we cab get back to a normal life away from this pandemic that we are in so lift up our voices to Jesus that he brings us out of this mess we are in) faith that resulted in obedience led to healing ‘for the lepers it was a physical healing for us it might be a spiritual healing whatever it is we need to have FAITH and be obedient and continue to follow Jesus ..........
III.) Affirmed
(Luke 17:15-19)
A. Return of one (vv. 15-16)
King James Version (Chapter 17)
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: 16 B and he was a Samaritan
now on their way to the priest one man out of the ten that got heald on their way returned to Jesus because his of his Gratitude and in his loudest voice he praised God ( compare Luke 5:26; 17:16)

And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God

then he fell to the feet of Jesus meaning a extreme posture of submission ( the same as when we fall on our knees to pray to god not standing but falling down on your knees to pray total submission to god) showing fear or reverence to the almighty) see acts 10:25-26

25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 26 But Peter took him up, saying,

also in revelation19:10;22:8-9

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

this one man that came back wanted to praise Jesus for giving him healing from God as he thank jesus ( and this man knew that what just happened to him and the other nine was a healing that came from God through Jesus(see john 9:25)

He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see

asa we see all that’s we should always give praise to God for all he does for us Amen)
16 B guess what the man that came back to thank jesus was a Samaritian we dont know that he was a samaritian from looking at him so it nust have been by his accent or something but yuo rest assure that Jesus knew because Jesus was here not just for the Jews but for all people........
B. Absense of nine ( v. 17 -19)

And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. 19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole

now jesus already knew where the other nine were he only asked the question to get the attention of the folks that were around him to let them know that even though he healed ten only came back to give thanks and we should be remended to like i said earlier always give thanks to Jesus for all and everything that he does in our lives or in the ones around should have the same understanding to thank Jesus for all things not and to be like the one that came back and not wait like the other nine to give thanks while we can.
V 18) 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger
just like i said the one that was a non Jew and they are the ones that should have come back also not just this one stranger. to give praise and accept jesus for him being the son of God and what his mission was to show the great powers of God the Father through the Son. see matt 10 &15 luke 7 and john 1this is prof of ones faith not his background or his ancestry just his FAITH.
read the story for giving thanks .. and not letting it slip by like the other nine did....
(v.19)

19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

then jesus turned to the samaritian to tell him about his Faith which has made him heal Compare luke 7:50;18:42

And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

you see no matter who you are its the Faith you have is what will make you whole
faith alone does not make you heal your self its the trust and obedience in God as you saw here..... read the rest from the book starting from the second paragraph Amen.
