New Series | Excited | Fixing our eyes on Jesus | About going ALL IN | ALL IN on the presence of GOD | Bible said GREATEST NEED is the PRESENCE OF GOD | RIGHT, GOOD, BEAUTIFUL is in the presence of GOD | What does that look like?
Olympics | Amazing Athelets | TItmas | 2 Gold Medals | We see the race | What do we NOT see | the process | 9 swims per week, 3 x gym, 4 x spin | physio + Massage, 30 hours of training a week - over 5 years while doing school | We see the Gold, we don’t see the process.
Does she look Stressed? Burnt out? annoyed?
We see those people that seem to go through every storm, and survive, what’s behind that?
Harriot Tubbman - Completely illeterate | Symptoms of Necelepsy by being hit and God used | Made 19 trips using underground railroad, 145km per trip, over 5,000 trips in total, 300 slaves saved
HOW? did she do what she did?
How could she do the WHAT? because she had a WHY fueled by God.
but, there is a process . MY hope is to understand this process, that these people achieved for God.
are we all in? Are our eyes fixed on Jesus | What would happen if we gave our entire life to God. Today I want to talk about 3 things
Rest
Fix
Transform
Context Hebrews | Don’t know Author |
Key Verse
Hebrews 12:1–3 ESV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
The title of this Message: WRONG WAY go BACK. There is a better direction

What does it mean to REST in GOD

What does it mean to rest in GOD? Sometimes not All in | Going the WRONG WAY | Burdens are heavy because they are not GODS
jesus said cometo me and ill give you rest
Let’s look at this passage:
Hebrews 4:11 ESV
Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.
What does this mean?
Couple of verses back to examine
Hebrews 4:1–3 ESV
Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’ ” although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Author quotes Psalm 95. why? What is he trying to say?| Talking about the isrealites that never entered the promise land | Painting a picture, first picture is this psalm, remember what happened, they got sent back to wilderness for 38 years while an entire generation died so their children could enter
Why is Author talking about entering promise land as rest? to enter promise land is to enter God’s Promises | he didn’t say “This is your land” he said “Once you get there, no one will come against you, Enemy will flea, blessings, children strong etc” | So, step into promise land, step into promises of God
This is what it means to “Enter into his rest” “Enter into his Promises”
What does that mean today?
Entering into God’s rest is a picture of what? Entering into relationship with Jesus but how?
Hebrews 4:8 ESV
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on.
Partially filled in promise land | fully filled with Jesus Christ |
Who wants this rest?
Word says “Make every effort, STRIVE for this rest” , this REST is NOW and NEW CREATION | the REST is PROVIDED to you in EVERYTHING you DO | STRIVE to ENTER the REST in HIM.
**Illustration of stepping back, or stepping in**
Illustration: Passover, final plague, angel of Death how where they saved?
Isaiah 30:15 ESV
For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling,
Colossians 2:16–17 ESV
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
Do you keep a sabbath? One Day dedicated to the Lord? that’s fine, or rest in him EVERY DAY. when Jesus said “IT IS FINISHED” he meant it and I believe it, now apply his blood.
Step 1: Rest - but that doesn;t mean pull back, it means lean in - it says to make every effort.
effort, is not the same as earning, and God wants your effort, but you can’t earn it.
Rest is not the absence of activity.
The burden is light, if it’s the Lords | What happened in Hebrews
It means if you get your heart right before God and you are following his will and you stuff up, you can’t lose your salvation
So if we are resting in the promises of God, we must know where we are going right? If we are resting in his purpose, then we need direction

Step 2: Fix our Eyes on Jesus

Old Testament Story | Everyone Knows it | Think about where the Focus was | what Distracitons came up, what was the “Process” and the Outcome
Daniel | Court officers in Babylon | in fact, greatest officer, dilligent, rolled his sleeves up, made an EFFORT to King Darius | God Fearing | Prayed to God Daily
Other Court Officers = Jealous = Wanted him gone | Do you have other “Court Officers” in your life? Daniel serving God = Opposition | They knew he served God, Made King Darius sign new Law = anyone prays to God, throw in Lions den |
Interesting little verse here, just after this Law passed:
Daniel 6:10 ESV
When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.
Nothing changed | not run, not scared, what did he do? turn to God.
Captured | Thrown into Lions Den, some of you might feel there now.
Daniel 6:23 ESV
Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
Fruit of endurance? survived, his enemies where killed,
Daniel 6:25–28 ESV
Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: “Peace be multiplied to you. I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.” So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
PRAISE THE LORD | through ACTIONS, the KING DECLARED THE LORD
this was a REAL LAW that passed | but daniel KNEW it had no REAL POWER | what is this law in your life? what is stopping you going all in for God? and entering that REST?
Daniel knew his WHY (GOD) and so his WHAT didn;t change
**Standing back, being lukewalm**
if you don’t enter into the WHOLE PRESENCE of GOD, if you don’t go ALL IN to serve him (in WHOLE LIFE) and focus on the WHY, your WHAT will be wrong. if your WHY is RIGHT, your WHAT will follow.
Motives matter to God
Proverbs 16:1–3 ESV
The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
What did Daniel do when law was passed? Didn’t step back | didn’t go sleep and rest | he foudn God’s REST in HIM | Got to Work
God is telling you Step up, step in | Pray like it;s all on him, work like it’s all on you
Step 3: Transform - This is easy

Step 3: Transform

Romans 12:1–2 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
It will happen if you do the first two steps. Renewal of your mind is a process. Read the Word | Rest in Him | fix your eyes = Transform.

Conclusion

Ok, step 1: Rest = it’s not falling asleep, it’s dedicating everything you do to God = believe it is done | grab that power | he will Sustain, provide, eqiup, protect = JUST SHOW UP, you have gifts
Step 2: Fix your eyes | EVERYTHING
Step 3: Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Church Listen: Faithful with a little, he will give you a lot | if you FIX Your EYES on JESus he will GUIDE YOUR STEPS and he will PROTECT YOUR HEART then you won’t worry about finding a calling ,it will find you.
Jesus Christ - he knew the WHY, he had the right WHY and his WHY was you | What was his WHAT? What did he do? Hardest thing...
