1 John 2:28-29 Confidence God’s desire for us

The aim: Confidence

The command: Abide

Challenge: But how can we have assurance if we have not reached the day of his appearance?

Answer: It is evident who are the children of God and who are not (1 John 3:10)

The children of God evident by:

Their practice of righteousness
Their love of their brother

Challenge: But no one practices righteousness, thus how can anyone have assurance?

Answer: A Christian must be able to walk in righteousness, otherwise none would be saved.

The Christian practices righteous like Abel, not Cain.
Righteousness tied to sharing in the Love of God.

Assurance overcomes condemnation and shame.
Assurance gives us confidence in our prayers.
Assurance of personal salvation tied to confidence in Christ's work.
Assurance the root of Christian love.
The Impossibility of growth without assurance.
