Honor your parents

Exodus 20:12

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

This is 정상현 전도사님, I’m a new 전도사님 to serve children ministry. I’m so glad to be your 전도사님, and nice to meet you all.

So, I’m going to ask you this question. Are you obedient to your parents? Are you following your parents well whatever they are saying to you? (Do this or don’t do this) What do you think?

전도사님 was not that good follower of my parents. And I repented it.

Today, we are going to talk about one of ten commandments. Does anyone know what ten commandments are? (answering) It is the commandments that God has given to the people of Israel through Moses at the mountain Sinai. God commands and blesses them, saying “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

Why did God command them to honor their parents? Is it important thing to Christians like me? Yes, definitely it is! Because God has given his authority to your parents to raise you up and teach you in love. that’s why you should follow your parents. It’s not because they are just your parents, but because they have authority over you given by God. Their authority as your parents comes from God. So, honoring your parents is not just honoring your parents only, but honoring your parents and God as well. So, if you truly believe God is your Lord and obey his voice, then you should honor your parents.

Let’s think about past week. Is there anything that you didn’t follow what your parents ordered you to do something? you can write down on this paper. (take time) then, what should you do next time when your parents command you to do something? why should you do that?

God commands us to honor our parents because he has given his authority to our parents. That’s why we should follow our parents, and that’s the way to honor our God. Don’t forget about this truth and hope that we all would be good follower of our parents and our God. Let’s pray.
