MY GOD, MY GOD WHY
HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?

camp. So Jesus also suffered
outside the gate in order to
sanctify the people through his

The seven sayings of Jesus from the cross (in order):

1. Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)

1. “My God, My God …”
‣ a change in relationship (separation)
2. “Why ….?” [For what reason…?]
‣ a change in status (condemnation)
3. “… forsaken me.”
‣ a change in experience (isolation)
“For if the blood of goats and
bulls, and the sprinkling of
defiled persons with the ashes
of a heifer, sanctify for the
purification of the flesh, how
much more will the blood of
Christ, who through the
eternal Spirit offered himself
without blemish to God, purify
our conscience from dead
works to serve the living God.” (Hebrews 9:13–14 ESV)
