Introduction- Why do people go fishing?

Illustration: According to Virginia’s Department of Wildlife Resources, the top 10 reasons to go fishing are:
Stress Relief- Nothing brings on the sense of being alive and helps to rebuild our personal reserves like a day spent interacting with nature.
Social Bonding- Sharing a fishing experience helps strengthen relationships with family and friends.
Health Benefits- Being outside and being active helps to make you feel better and encourages a healthier way of life.
Recreation- Having a bad day of fishing still beats a day in the office or tending to house chores. The most common reason you will find with people who like to fish is that it is simply fun
Self-fulfillment- Fishing can also play an important role in ones personal and social development. Fishing is a lifetime skill and activity that can be enjoyed at any age.
Fishing for Food- Wild fish are low in fat and cholesterol and high in protein. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends a regular diet of fish.
The Thrill- Fishing has a way of fulfilling an age-old need of pursuing and catching.

Transition To Body- Disciples together working/moving forward without the LORD?

John 21:1–2 ESV
1 After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together.
John 21:3 ESV
3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

Body

Don’t Go Back To Business As Usual

Illustrate: Simon Peter wants to go back to his previous occupation after having be recommissioned by the LORD Jesus Christ
The passing of a love one can bring out the best in a family as well as the worst of a family
John 20:21–23 ESV
21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
The other six disciples go with Simon Peter (together but going back to the old ways)

Matthew 22:37 ESV
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
Galatians 6:9–10 ESV
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Don’t Attempt To Make It Without Jesus

John 21:3 ESV
3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

Embrace The New Morning (or Days) To Come

Currently Things May Appear Cloudy & Uncertain

John 21:4–6 ESV
4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.

Just a children need to be provided for, so do we

Do be dry, provide some flavor

Jesus Provides While We Contribute Too (what Jesus has enabled us to catch)

John 21:9–11 ESV
9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.

There May Be Doubts In The Days Ahead

John 21:12–13 ESV
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish.

John 21:14 ESV

1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:6–7 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
John 14:12–14 ESV
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Psalm 30:5 ESV
5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
2 Corinthians 1:3–4 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
