We are in our 6 week of our series Convictions: What wee Believe.
The question we have been try to answer during this series is this
Do Christians have nonnegotiable beliefs, and if so, what are they?
So far in the eight week series we have look at The Holy Bible. How this book is God breath written by man over serverly hundred years that all work together. This book is a prefect gift from God in the form that it in. There is nothing we can do to make it better.
Then we look at who the Trinity is and how One God shows himself in three different ways God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This idea of the Trinity confronts us with a lead of faith. We have to have a little faith to believe God is who he says he is.
Next, we broke done the Trinity into three parts. We start with the first part God the Father. God the Father created everything in 6 day including humans on the 6 day. He created us in his image.
Genesis 1;1 you don’t read, “In the beginning God dropped something on accident, and as a result there was life.” Rather, we read, “In the beginning God created…” He set about to do something when he created, which means you have purpose and value.
Next we talk about the second part God the Son. We look at who this was and Jesus is the Son of God. God give a lot of laws for us to follow but no one can. We will always miss up someway. Jesus was the only one to every live a perfect life. Perfect with out sin for birth to death on the cross. Why you may ask. Its so you can I could have enterinal life with God. When Jesus die on the cross and conquered death so we can live with God. When we ask Jesus into our hearts and ask for the forgiveness of our sins.
Finally last week we look at God the Holy Spirit and how this was gift prosimed by Jesus to help guide us. We talk about once we become follower of Christ that when we receive this gift. He doesn’t come at a later date. God has sent you a Helper who can guide and lead you.
This week we are look at why we need Jesus in the first place. This thing called Sin for those in Canada that not your social insurance number. We will be look at The Fall.
We live in a world were people do whatever they want. The are so that have no concern for anyone else. Where did this come from? We will be look to the bible to find the answer. s
So if you have your bible please turn to Genesis 3:1-24 or you can follow along on the screen in a few minutes.
Before we look at this passage. I have a question for you.
Did God create people to be wicked?
Did God create people to be wicked?
No. God created them good and in his own image, that is, in true righteousness and holiness, so that they might truly know God their creator, love him with all their heart, and live with God in eternal happiness, to praise and glorify him.
if God didn’t create people like this then
Where did the wickedness come from?
Where did the wickedness come from?
The fall and disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve, in Paradise. This fall has so poisoned our nature that we are all conceived and born in a sinful condition.
Lets take a look at part of the bible says about the fall. For time reason we have read all of it this morning but I would like to invite to read the whole chapter sometime this week.
1 Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You can’t eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit from the trees in the garden.
3 But about the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat it or touch it, or you will die.’ ”
4 “No! You will certainly not die,” the serpent said to the woman.
5 “In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 The woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
First thing we see here is
God gave us free choice
God gave us free choice
He give Adam and Eve the choice. He could have not planted the tree of good and evil. He could have left that out of the garden. He put this tree in the garden to give the the choice. They could choice to stay with God and walk with God for the rest of their lives. Or they could choice to disobey God and do whatever they wanted. Has we know they choice not to follow God. They choice to lesson to the serpent and not to what God told them.
You and I have a choice to to follow God or to Follow ourself. If we choice to follow ourself. What is the consequences that we face.
What is the consequences of sin?
What is the consequences of sin?
There are a lot but I want to focus in on the main one. We see the main consequences in verse 19. God said to the Adam
19 You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust.”
Did you caught the consequence of sin?
Death is the consequence of sin
Death is the consequence of sin
God never wanted this to happen. He made us in his image. He made you and I to worship with him but he did not want to force us in a relationship with him. He wants it to our choice to have this a relationship. When sin came into the world there had to be a consequence that is death. You see God told Adam that he would return to dust that the was made from. Death is coming for each and everyone of us. Not just death but Death not being able to see God our talk with him anymore.
23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;
But there is a life line. There is a way that we can be with God for eternity. There is a way that death loose it sting.
22 The righteousness of God is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, since there is no distinction.
Believing in the power of what Jesus did for you
Believing in the power of what Jesus did for you
you can choice to believe ion the power of Jesus or not. You can choice to follow Jesus or not. That is the free choice we have. We all have a change for redemption. We all have a choice.
What will you choose?
What will you choose?
To follow Jesus or not to and continue to live your own way. To continue to live in sin or to denie yourself and take up your cross and follow the Savoir.
We do live in a broken world where sin runs wild. We live in a world that seems like there is no way we can do anything right. This world is broken because of the sin in the world. The Human nature.
We cannot do anything good enough to connect us to God, because everything we do is tainted by sin.
Next week will be talking about the remdeption the Grace that is offered to you and I.
