Galatians 1:1–5 (NKJV)

1 Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead), 2 and all the brethren who are with me,

To the churches of Galatia:

3 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

that He might deliver us from this present evil age, (His Purpose)

according to the will of our God and Father, 5 (His Obedience)

Deliver - ἐξαιρέω = To take or pluck out.

(I) To take or pluck out, as an eye (Matt. 5:29; 18:9).

(II) To take out of affliction or danger, to deliver, followed by the acc. and ek (1537), out of (Acts 7:10; 12:11; Gal. 1:4; Sept.: Gen. 32:11; 37:21).

(III) To take out from a number, select, in the mid., to select for oneself, to choose, with the acc. (Acts 26:17; Sept.: Deut. 25:11; Job 36:21).

Sermon Outline

“Remain side by side with Him who loved us, and gave Himself for us, and you too will become a permanent magnet, a permanently attractive force; and like Him you will draw all men unto you, like Him you will be drawn unto all men. That is the inevitable effect of Love. Any man who fulfils that cause must have that effect produced in him.” Henry Drummond , The Greatest Thing in the World, p45

Paul is writing this letter to address to the church the need to be intentional in Christianity. He wants an authentic and intentional form of christianity.

It is a letter that will deal with the conflict between serving to please man and serving to please God.

It is a letter where Paul will address the harsh truths of legalism and at the same time encourage freedom that believers have in Christ.

It is a letter that paint the portrait of what it looks like to be a true follower of Jesus Christ.

If we as Christians seek to understand the full dynamic of what it means to be a Christian, the n we look no furthur than Jesus.

In one sentence Paul gives to us the visual to what it means to be a Christian. by the demonstration of the life of Jesus Christ.

It is broken down into four key elements to the Christian life lived out in the life of Jesus Christ.

These four are the following:

The Father’s will was His objective.

The Father’s will determined His purpose.

The Father’s will was His committment.

The Father’s glory was His motive.

So how does this life manifest itself in and through our life?

We are called to preach the gospel. (This expresses objectivity and purpose)

In preaching the gospel we bring glory to God. (This expresses committment and motive)
