What are you seeking? - v22-27
What are you seeking? - v22-27
They sought Jesus-ish
They sought Jesus-ish
They didn’t know who they were seeking
I could never believe in a God who...
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” - C.S. Lewis
27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”
They sought His hands, not His face
They sought His hands, not His face
The trappings of Christianity can never satisfy or save - Judas
What you win people with is what you win them to - food
Counterfeits and One-Ups
Pharaoh’s magicians
Golden calf
False Christianity
They sought to save themselves
They sought to save themselves
This is totally logical, but completely impossible and empty
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
The thing is, if you save yourself it would only be from punishment, not from sin itself. Most people seek salvation apart from a Lord. Jesus can not be taken in part; all or nothing.

God did / does the work
God did / does the work
25 Man ate of the bread of the angels; he sent them food in abundance.
God split the Red Sea - salvation
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
God sent the manna - provision
14 And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.
Ours is just to believe
Faith is a duty
Faith is a gift
Faith is the conduit; not the substance
Manna (Ex 16)
Manna is provided (the need is met)
God distributes as He sees fit
There are instructions

Jesus Is: v30-40
Bread - the sustenance to be consumed
Life - the result / benefit of consuming the bread
Certainty - He loses none!
Church Family, Jesus is much more than the one to show us the way; He IS the way. He is the object of our faith. Let us accept no substitutes or lesser fulfillments; let us seek Christ Jesus above all else!
