Corporate Prayer of Confession - 08/08/2021
A time of silence will follow the prayer.
Pray
Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from Your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Your holy laws. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is nothing good in us. O wretched sinners are we...
We enter your presence confessing the things we try to conceal from you and the things we try to conceal from others. We confess the heartbreak, worry, and sorrow we have caused, that make it difficult for others to forgive us, the times we have made it easy for others to do wrong, the harm we have done that makes it hard for us to forgive ourselves...
We are more ready to resent than to forgive, more ready to manipulate than to serve, more ready to fear than to love, more ready to keep our distance than to welcome, more ready to compete than to help. At the root of this behavior is mistrust. We do not love one another as we should, because we do not believe that you love us as you do...
As David prayed, so do we...
Psalm 38:1–4 ESV
1 O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath! 2 For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down on me. 3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin. 4 For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
He waited patiently for You, knowing you heard his cry. Lord, may we wait on you. Draw us up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog…
PAUSE
Time and time again You rescue us from the filth of sin. You clean us, placing upon us the robe of Your righteousness, discarding the waste ridden rags of our righteousness.
Invite the people to stand
Hear the assurance of forgiveness given to you from His Word
Response: His mercy endures forever.
