Isaiah 6:1-8

1. In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

4. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5. Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7. And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

8. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

INTRODUCTION

I’m pretty sure if I was to engage each of you in dialogue as to what you wanted to be when you were growing up, all of the answers would be different.

If we’d be honest about this morning very fear of us actually operate in what we really wanted to be. This presents us with a case of Desire vs. Design.

Even today as a grown man I would love to play for the NBA as a power forward with the glits and glam that go along with being an athlete, but the average Power Forward is 6'10", 245 lbs.; THAT’S MY DESIRE, but my Design has me at 5’9 , 330 lbs., Its not for me.

But what do we do with what God has shaped, molded and design each of for and it still seems like we have moments when it seems that we are out of our league.

IF I can be transparent this morning, I've had moments in my life where what God has design me to be left me with question.

I’m not Mechanic

I'm not a heart surgeon

i’m not a Pilate nor an engineer on the railroad

But at times in my field of expertise as a leader and a Pastor I've had moments where I ask myself AM I CUT OUT FOR THIS!!!

I’ve had moments

Moments where I felt all alone

I’ve had moments where the ministry had more bills than money

Moments where we’ve had more seats than folks in the sanctuary

Moments where folks who started with me and called and said that were moving on to other ministries, I’VE HAD MOMENTS!!!

But every time I get in my feelings God reminds me of 3 very important things

Who i’m not

Who I am

Who I am yet to become

TEXT

Uzziah reigned for 52 years.

He was great influenced by the prophet Hezekiah.

He was a good king, he led isreal through an a great season of wealth and prosperity but Uzziah made the mistake that many people make when they believe they are more than who they are.

Uzziah offered incense to the Lord and got out of his place as king and tried to be and operate as a priest and he was stricken with leprosy, and died in the state that he was in.

During this season of mourning, sorrow and suffering, Isaiah takes his eyes off of a now deceased Uzziah and sees the real King, the Lord God Almighty.

He marks his conversion experience by the death of King Uzziah,he says it was in the year that King Uzziah died that I saw Also the Lord high and lifted up.

But unknown to Isaiah and the people of his day, Uzziah’s death was to mark a major change in the history of the Jews.

Following the reign of King Uzziah, the prosperity and peace that the nation had known began to decline.

His son Jotham was a good king, but Jotham’s son Ahaz was a terrible ruler. He led the nation in a downward spiral of wickedness and false worship and Although things had turned back to righteousness under Hezekiah’s rule, Isaiah was to have a very difficult ministry.

The prophet’s ministry was launched in the year that King Uzziah died, in the very period in which the nation began to decline.

The people were given over to:

greed

covetousness

indulgence

drunkenness,

lies and deception

pride and arrogance, and even the mockery and persecution of the righteous.

He was face with a people who had perverted values, a people who called evil good and good evil.

Isaiah felt a desperate need to seek the face of the LORD.

In spite of every mangle and messed of moment with Isreal Isaiah knows that the only thing that will carry him through is to seek the face of the Lord.

1. Moment Of Clarity—Isaiah Realized Who He Was Not v. 3

God gave him a vision of His Holiness and His Glory.

He saw Seraphims , (Sarap) menas burning ones, suggesting a burning purity and zeal for the Lord, they each had six wings

2 covered there face - Not Worthy to seek his face.

2 covered their feet - not worthy to stand before him.

2 they flew and hovered above the throne of GOD signifying they continued assignment to proclaim the holiness of GOD.,

and their are chanting in 3 times succession Qadosh, Qadosh, Qadosh which is to say Holy, Holy, Holy! the threefold repetition was to emphasize that holiness is the most essential characteristic of the LORD!!!

We preach his Gospel but we are not Him and even leading His people sometimes we

BLEED WHILE WE LEAD!!!!!

2. Moment Of Confessing -Isaiah Realized Who He Was v.5

Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

A deep conviction of unworthiness is necessary to serve the LORD. Confronted with the vision of the LORD in all His majesty and holiness, Isaiah was stricken with a profound sense of unworthiness. He suddenly realized the horrible nature of sin when contrasted with the majestic light of God’s glory and holiness.

3. Moment Of Cleansing— Isaiah Realized Who He Was To Become v.8

As soon as Isaiah had been cleansed from his sins, he immediately heard the booming voice of the LORD calling for a volunteer to go forth to minister to His people. Without hesitation—not leaving time for the seraphim or anyone else to respond—Isaiah courageously offered himself: “Here am I! Send me.” Having been forgiven his sins and sensing deeply that the LORD accepted him, Isaiah was filled with joy and thanksgiving. Therefore with no reservation, Isaiah leapt at the opportunity to serve his LORD. His immediate surrender reveals …

• a spirit of readiness, both a desire and a willingness to serve the LORD

• a spirit of resolve, a determination to go and bear witness despite the difficulties

• a spirit of trust, leaving the success and results up to the LORD

Closing Observation
