John 14:15–17 NASB95
15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. 16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
now turn with me to John 16
John 16:1–7 NASB95
1 “These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling. 2 “They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God. 3 “These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me. 4 “But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. 5 “But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 “But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
In my devotion i have been reading Eph for the last couples of week.
primarily chapters 1 and 2 over and over
i have been moved by what seem to be a theme in these two chapture
Ephesians 1:9 (NASB95)
9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
and
Ephesians 2:7 NASB95
7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
I’ve realized something. I dont truely understand His kindness extended to me
or for that matter what does kindness really mean.
Titus says.
Titus 3:3–6 NASB95
3 For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. 4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
Notice God’s kindness
while we were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another
while we were distant. in our sins…God still showed his kindness to us...
not because we were good, but because he is so kind, to us.
But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,
notice verse 5 and 6
Titus 3:5–6 (NASB95)
5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
“God always acts in extravagance, and his gift of the Spirit to those who believe demonstrates his greatest liberality. Not only has he rescued us from the frustrations and enslavements of sin; he has assured a spiritual power and development that would lie beyond us without his personal interaction. The Spirit enables us to follow in the ways of Christ.”
I want to talk about God kindness express to us through the person of the Holy Sprit.
Notice, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
Peter echos this in
Acts 5:32 NASB95
32 “And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper
“He” will be with you forever.
the points to the fact that the Holy Spirit is a person.
5 proofs The Holy Spirit is a person.
1. The Spirit can be grieved.
Ephesians 4:30 NASB95
30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
2. The Spirit speaks.
Acts 8:29 NASB95
29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go up and join this chariot.”
Acts 13:2 NASB95
2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
3. The Spirit makes decisions.
Acts 15:28 NASB95
28 “For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials:
4. The Spirit can be lied to.
Acts 5:3–4 NASB95
3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? 4 “While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”
5. The Spirit can be insulted.
Hebrews 10:29 NASB95
29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Jesus says, The Father will give you, another Helper
Isn’t that kind of Him, another helper. not just one, but another one.
The Greek word there is parakletos, meaning he who has been or may be called to help; a pleader who comes forward in favour of and as the representative of another.
It also means helper or intercessor
advocate (legal) n. — a person who acts as a spokesperson or representative of someone else’s policy, purpose, or cause; especially before a judge in a court of law.
Why does Jesus say The Father will give you, “another helper?”
1 John 2:1 NASB95
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
We have a Helper, Advovate with the Father.... Jesus Christ.
Listen we have a lot of Help!
Better than OJ’s dream team.
again Parakletos also means intercessor.
Jesus our intercessor
Hebrews 7:25 NASB95
25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Holy Spirit our intercessor
Romans 8:26 NASB95
26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;
Parakletos is a compound word...
Para and Kletos
Para means, very close or beside
notice verse 17
John 14:17 NASB95
17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
you know Him because He abides with (para) you and will be in you.
1 Corinthians 3:16 NASB95
16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Kletos means called.
When put together what do these two words say about the Holy Spirit?
“The Holy Spirit is permanently called closely alongside each of us to provide coaching, direction, instruction, and council in out life journey.”
He may be with you forever FOREVER!!!
I had a truck and i was in norman and at the stop light as i was about to turn right my car died…
i was freaking out cuz i was in the middle of traffic and was stopping traffic
a guy pulls beside me and says, “Hey you need help pushing?” i said, “YES!”
He may be with you forever FOREVER!!!h push my car across the stress to the side of the road.
he told me later he was a cop. i said to him, ‘You sure are nice, for someone that hates all black people” i laughed, he didnt. he was off duty and he stayed with me till another officer came
He was so kind...
He will not forsake us!
John 16:7 NASB95
7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
6 reasons to why it really was to our advantage that the Savior went away.

1. The cross.

(The entirety of the event) a display of His kindness
Isaiah 53:5 NASB95
5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
But He was
a) wounded for our transgressions,
so kind
b)bruised for our iniquities
kind
c)The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
he too kind
d)And by His stripes we are healed.
that was kind
The event of the cross deal with our salvation sovo and soteria mean saved from delivered out of. 1) Hell 2) sin 3) our enemies 4) Sickness

2. He went to Hell For us –

letting the captive free
(last night we went out to eat with Michelle and Kelly- we were going to pay) isnt that kind
as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for 3 days so the son of man will be in the center of the earth

3. Resurrected on the 3rd day.

Meaning hell and sin have no power over Him and He is the victorious one.
Colossians 2:15 NASB95
15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
Hebrews 2:14 NASB95
14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
so kind

4. Seated by the Father and intercedes on our behalf.

he is rooting for us. Preparing a place for us

5. HE WILL COME AGAIN FOR US.

And here in our text

6. He send The Spirit and The comforter The Helper.

im closing!!!!!!
The Holy Spirit empowers.
The Holy Spirit empowered Jesus
and jesus said that the Holy Spirit will empower us.
Acts 1:8 NASB95
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
You shall receive power. Strength or ability to do so.
To be my witness. to witness or be effective
Charles Spurgeon says, the power of the Holy Spirit is displayed 3 ways, “First, the outward and visible displays of it; second, the inward and spiritual manifestations of it; and third, the future and expected works thereof.”
I got Jesus..
i heard somebody say, jesus plus nothing, equals everything
But then Jesus richly poured out out the holy spirit.
wow! He is so Kind to us!
