Matthew 7:7-11

Matthew 7:7–11 NKJV
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

1) Ask

The greek word for ask here is aitĕō
Meaning: to call for.
Romans 10:13 says whoever calls upon the name of the lord shall be saved
Romans 10:13 NKJV
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
It’s important for us to understand that this part of the verse is not meaning to ask for what we want but what we are in need of.

2) Seek

We are to be seeking the things of God, such as wisdom
James 1:5 states that when we ask for wisdom God will give us wisdom
James 1:5 NKJV
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
Proverbs 3:13 says that happy or blessed is the man who finds wisdom.
Proverbs 3:13 NKJV
13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding;
If you find something that means that you where searching for it to begin with.
Acts 17:27
Acts 17:27 NKJV
27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
2 Chronicles 7:14
2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV
14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

3) Knock.

When you knock on a door you are asking for entry into a place.
when you are Knocking on deaths door God will answer the door and let you in provided that you are a christian.

4) God loves us like His own children

If your child asked you for something that they need, you would do anything in your power to get them what they needed.
vs 11 says that even evil people now how to give good gifts, but your heavenly father loves you even more and will do anything to see you have what you need to live an abundant spiritual life in him.
The best example of this is that He sent his only son to die for us, even if we didn't deserve it.
