i am going to first read through this portion of scripture and then expound on the doubt the early church had, with paul’s explanation and then go into the OT and see if we can glean some mysteries and to have a greater revelation of the spiritual realms.
then we’ll see the link between the skin, sand and stars.
35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?”
36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.
38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.
39 For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.
40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
42 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable.
43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
45 Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
46 But it is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual.
47 The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven.
48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
this portion of the scriptures shows the doubt and the unbelief of the early church in Corinth.
the doubt was on how the physical body will be after the current body is buried and starts to decay.
Some had evidently ridiculed the idea of a resurrection by asking questions about the nature of the body with which people would rise. ‘How can people possibly rise when their bodies have completely rotted away?’ seems to have been the kind of objection raised, an objection not unfamiliar in modern times.
in fact this mystery has fascinated all religions.
that's why in some of the ancient religions like the Egyptian pharohonic period, they used to build great tombs and store products in the tomb that the deceased could use in the after life.
Paul counters by pointing to the miracle of harvest. The seed is buried, but it is raised up with a new and more glorious body. From this he goes on to consider that there are different kinds of body, and different kinds of glory
so when we are resurrected, we get a different kind of body.
just as the bodies of different types of created beings are different, so will the resurrected body be.
we probably will not be able to understand all of it. but that should not bring about unbelief.
how many of us understood the concept of birth, before you were born?
how many of us understand all the technological concept of how our sound and vision can be transmitted through our mobile device over air to another device in another part of the world and that too for nearly free?
do we understand all the concept of the car we are driving?
no. but we still use them and don't doubt them. we just don't know and we move on.
we don't disbelieve the mobile or the car and declare them non existent because we don't wholly understand them.
so when will this happen, and how long will it take is what we are going to see next week
today we’ll focus and try to understand further the type of resurrected body we’ll have.
37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.
38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.
the seed is different from the body.
the seed literally has to die or be transformed, then only the body will grow
if you crush the olive seed you get olive oil. but if you crush the olive tree branch, you will not get oil.
if you crush the coconut copra, you will get milk and oil, but if you take the coconut tree branch or the trunk, you will never get oil or milk.
a mans seed is different from the body of a man.
the way a sperm moves or works is different from that of how a man moves and walks.
the sperm gets resurrected to this human body that you see.
tomorrow this body will die and another gets resurrected.
a sperm or the fetus does not understand any concept outside the the womb of the body.
during the 9 months period, its the womb which is the world for the sperm.
when the sperm infuses into the egg, slowly the body of the sperm gets transformed to another body. it starts to loose its tail. the sperm can say hey what happened to my tail? that was my mobility. now i cant move. finally when we come out of the womb all whats left of the tail is the small tail bone that we have, which we are reminded of when we have a bad fall on our buttock.
so Paul is trying to say explain that the type of resurrected body is different at resurrection.
in the same way the different types of animals and birds have different type of bodies.
Paul says each type of body is different and they have a different type of glory. he uses the glory word. what is the meaning of glory?
39 For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.
40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
Glory
δόξα (doxa),
the condition of being bright or shining, brightness, splendor, radiance
in other words, the beauty of the fish is different from that of the bird and that is different from that of an animal.
from v 42 to 44 Paul talks about the differences of the 2 types of bodies that we have.
Natural body vs Resurrected body:
Perishable - Imperishable (v 42)
Dishonor - Glory (v 43)
Weakness - Power (v 43)
Buried - Raised (v 44)
this change from the physical body to the spiritual body is because of what Jesus did for us.
29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Jesus reversed the failure of 1st Adam
Living Soul - Life giving Spirit (v 45)
Belong to Earth (dust) - Belong to Heaven (v 47)
Look like Dust - Look like Heaven. (v 49)
45 Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
we are becoming a life giving spirit.
bring life back to people and situation.
don't take life out of a person.
47 The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven.
we belong to heaven. we plan a lot for the time in the earth, but we seldom plan anything for eternity.
we plan for retirement funds
48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.
from which ever part of the world you are from your skin color will match to a soil color.
that is because these bodies of ours came from the world - dirt.
we bear the image of the man from the dust.
in the same way we are going to bear the image of the man from heaven.
sand and skin colors
just as Adam was made from clay, we looked like clay, soil
7 then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
עָפָר
ʿāpār, n.c., dust; loose earth, soil; rubble; clay
Rocks have different colors. marbles, granite stone comes in different colors.
but we don't look or have different colors because we are all made from sand / dust
how much of beauty or makeup we do, we still resemble the color of sand / dust
we cannot make ourselves look like green or pink or yellow or white or black.
49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
Bear the image of heaven
heaven is the celestial body - like the stars.
ἐπουράνιος (epouranios). adj. heavenly or in heaven
to being in the sky or heavens as an astronomical phenomenon
of those whose sphere of activity or existence is above, or in contrast to that of earth

5 And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies,
17 I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab and break down all the sons of Sheth.
3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!
12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low!
13 You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north;
2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
so the next time you go to the beach and search for a star fish, remember that you are like sand now, but getting transformed to a star.
or the next time you are on the beach at night and you are lying down on the beach or you are on the roof top of your house gazing to the sky and see the stars. remember that you are also one of those heavenly celestial body - one of those star.
when i see you i see the star in you.
that is what glows out of you
that is what comes out of your eyes and mouth and skin.
this star in you is what gives life to others.
