4 “Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
What is Faith?
What is blind faith?
Is Blind Faith biblical? Or desirable?
What is biblical faith?
Is Biblical Faith Blind?
Is Biblical Faith Irrational Or Illogical?
Are People of Faith Illogical?
Are People of Faith Illogical?
A business friend of mine recently said “people of faith do not always make decisions in a logical way?
I suppose that it seems this way to many people who lack faith. But is that a fair assertion?
And we should understand this, because there are actually many people of faith who think that their own faith defies logic, or reason.
But does it actually?
What is logic
Webster:
a science that deals with the principles and criteria of validity of inference and demonstration :
the science of the formal principles of reasoning
So, what is “reasoning”
Reasoning = the use of reason especially : the drawing of inferences or conclusions through the use of reason
Reason = : the power of comprehending, inferring, or thinking especially in orderly rational ways : INTELLIGENCE
So, then logic is to use reason, or reasoning. Which is to use our thinking, our minds to comprehend, infer and think in a rational way. Which is intelligence.
I replied to this statement by telling a couple of stories:
H. Jesse, and Dr. Titus
The question: How do we respond?
I could tell of many other stories, that I’ve read, that I’ve heard, and that I’ve lived
the end result, is that having had these experiences, facts and circumstances has provided me with data, more data perhaps than those who lacking it seem “logical” in their ignorance.
This might be compared to the scientific textbooks that used to prove that flies could evolve from hamburger. Yet later, when placed in an isolated environment, and properly observed, what seemed logical before was obviously foolish.
Having become aware of this knowledge and facts, the only “logical” way to make decisions from henceforth is one which indeed seems very logical to the uninformed. Yet, it is entirely logical.
Paul, when testifying before King Agrippa, summed up his entire conversion testimony by saying “I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.
What is “Blind Faith”?
What is “Blind Faith”?
Blind Faith, would be faith with no reason. Or even, faith in spite of reason, or evidence.
Does God want us to have blind faith?
The Bible is full of examples of logic and reasoning being used in a positive way.
We are told to “meditate” of His Word.
Words like Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding are not only desirable, they are commanded of us.
Reasoning is a faculty that God has given us - it would be absurd for us to believe that He does not intend us to use it.
3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
The message of the bible is a collection of “evidences”, or reasons, from which to build a sound faith. So, sound faith is not blind faith.
Consider Abraham and Issac - based on reason
The Egyptians and Exodus
All the prophecies and history
The Miracles of Jesus
The resurrection of Jesus
countless reasons - infallible proofs, documented facts
all of which should lead us to only one logical way of living life - by faith in HIM
The times we are in - the events of the world
The lives that I have known
and Your own testimony - if you will apply this logic.
I believe that to have blind faith in Jesus would be better than to have no faith at all, or to have “foolish faith” in anything else…
But, I know of nowhere in the Bible where we are commanded to have blind faith
in fact, we are commanded to do the opposite:
prove all things and cleave to that which is good
Study to show yourself approved
examine the scriptures
Line upon line, precept upon precept
build up your most holy faith.
Blind Faith is Foolish Faith
Blind Faith is Foolish Faith
As I have explained, “Christians” should not have blind faith.
Since we have established that blind faith is faith with no reason - or contrary to reason
and God is a god of order, of omniscience in fact.
Blind faith is the kind of faith that so many other religions are built upon
Hinduism for instance
Buddhism
Islam
So many religions and beliefs are built upon mere superstition, or some crazy whim or emotion
in fact, many Christians I know have mixed their own sound faith with wild notions based on fantasy, emotion, and sayings they have heard but not understood.
For example:
Everything happens for a reason
God is always on your side (God is angry with the wicked)
Everybody goes to heaven - universalism
etc.
Biblical faith is Sound, Logical & Reasonable Faith
Biblical faith is Sound, Logical & Reasonable Faith
My Christian friends, I pray that you will never allow anyone cause you to think that your faith is in any way inferior to the best science, logic, and reason in the world
that is, if your faith is founded on the many infallible proofs of Christ that we have.
Then you have a faith that has never been disproved - though many have tried
that billions claim to believe and live by
that has transformed many lives
and continues to be proven in this day
What if you do not understand it all?
many people don’t think they can understand the bible for instance
start where you are, and grow -
That’s ok, start with what you do know.
Consider riding on a plane:
I do not fully understand jet engine mechanics
but I have many reasons to believe that the plane will reach my destination safely if I get in.
An unlearned or ignorant person, of say 200 years ago, would probably not be likely to do so - not having been exposed to the truth
You have the truth available - but you must choose to expose yourself to it - then grow
But in the meantime, you have the testimony of so many people who have flown in planes
you have the example of so many people who have reached their destination safely, and confidently
you have an incomparable mountain of evidence from every method of research that will support this logic, if you have time to research it.
The 11th chapter of Hebrews is filled with examples of “By faith”
the examples are for you. they are evidences
they were given so that people would not have to rely on “blind faith”
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
Sound faith is substantive.
It is not imaginary and should never be idle
let me repeat that: it should never be idle
with it, you can move mountains - you can live as they have
You can live in True Christian Victory - Both now and Forever
More than Conquerors
Be Confident in Your Faith
Be Confident in Your Faith
Be steadfast unmoveable
You are on solid ground
And do not be moved from this confidence in Him
38 Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
