This account occurs after the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus has been alive and showing him self to many! We serve a truly risen saviour!
If there is something I can remind you of it is , its just not believing in Jesus that saves us. Its just not knowing he existed that saves us either. We are saved by believing the Gospel!
The Gospel is his life, death, burial, and resurrection!
- 1 Corinthians 15:1-5
1 Corinthians 15:1–5 KJV 1900
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
In this story we see a man who walked, lived, ate, and was a disciple of Jesus but he didn’t believe the gospel!
He didn’t believe the promises that Jesus made.
Maybe you’re here and you “follow” Jesus, you come to church, but you haven’t believed the gospel.
Maybe you’re a follower of Christ and it’s just hard to believe sometimes.
This story offers hope and help for doubt. It assures the heart. We are to take heed and make sure we are believing.
Hebrews 3:12
Hebrews 3:12 KJV 1900
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
Let’s examine this story. Let’s find victory over disbelief.
I. His doubt (John 20:24-27 )
Thomas was doubting that Jesus actually rose.
That dangerous- no resurrection = no salvation
He was doubting Jesus’ promises!
Jesus had made ample warning about his resurrection
Matthew 16:21
Matthew 16:21 KJV 1900
From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
Thomas doubted that Jesus would do what he said
Maybe we’re doubting God & his promises?
II. His belief (John 20:28-29)
Thomas believed Jesus and his words!
Jesus says those who haven’t seen him and believe are blessed!
It takes faith to believe him but it saves us!
1 Peter 1:8
1 Peter 1:8 KJV 1900
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
2 Corinthians 5: 7
2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV 1900
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Sometimes we are just going to have to trust although we can not see
Those who don’t believe are not blessed but rather condemned
John 3:18
John 3:18 KJV 1900
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
III. Our hope ( John 20:31)
John gives us the entire purpose of the book right here. So that we may believe!
You can trust Jesus!
You can trust his promises!
He can save you!
