4 Voices of the Psalm

The World

Verses 1-3 is the condition of the human heart. Sin has caused the heart of humanity to rebel against God.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident [m]within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not [n]honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and [o]crawling creatures. Rom. 1:18-23
Because we have a sin nature, our natural desire is to take our stand against the Lord. The way we do this is multifaceted.
Some people claim that there is no such thing as God. They believe that truth is relative to them and they do not have a God to answer to.
Others will agree that there is a God but He has nothing to do with them. They don’t need Him so they don’t worship Him or give Him thanks.
Still others claim to have a relationship with God but walk in rebellion.
Others have false gods that they serve.
People that have no fear of God are the ones that take their stand against their God.
They see God’s law as a fetter and cord that binds them from living the free life that they want to live.
God’s law are the very thing that help us from experience the penalty of sin. If we do, God has given us His Son to forgive us and restore us.

God The Father

Verses 4-6 give God’s response to the sinful person. The Lord laughs and scoffs at the person that tries to stand against Him. The Lord is bigger than our sinful hearts. He has conquered sin by sending His Son. He offers eternal life to those who repent of their sins and rewards with eternal life. Those that refuse His forgiveness will face His fury. It is known as the wrath of God.
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. Eph 2:1-3
Those that refuse Jesus will face the Fathers wrath. This is an eternal consequence. No one will be able to bare it.
God has already established His kingdom. No matter how bad the world gets, the day is coming when Christ will rule and bring all things back into order.

God the Son

God the Father has established His Kingdom in verse 6, but in verses 8-9 the Son speaks of the kingdom to come. He says that all nations will be His inheritance and the all the earth will be His possession.
You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. Heb. 2:8
The day is coming when all the earth will be in total submission to Christ. Right now it is not. People are living by their own rule, but the day is coming when all will subject themselves to Jesus.
This is because Jesus is God’s Son.
16 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and [i]he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and [j]lighting on Him, 17 and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is [k]My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” Matt. 3:16-17

God the Spirit

The way we submit to God the Father and Son is by the Spirit.
1. He says Show discernment and take warning
2. Worship the Lord with reverence.
3. Do homage to the Son. This means to kiss the Son.
This will
Avoid his anger and you perish
Not have to face the wrath of God
Be blessed for taking refuge in Him
The Spirit guides us to do these things.
