The God who is a Rock

We like stories that end but we’re still in the middle of the story.

Big Idea: God’s king and God’s plan will prevail. Worship Him!

Praising God because He is a Rock who delivers 1-6

God as a Rock responds powerfully to my distress because of my enemies 7-20

God delivers because His response is based on His promises and my righteousness 21-31

He doesn’t rescue David’s enemies, gives him victory over the nations

God as Rock, Redeemer

Colossians 1:13–14 (ESV)

13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer Greatest treasure of my longing soul My God, like You there is no other True delight is found in You alone

Your grace, a well too deep to fathom Your love exceeds the heaven's reach Your truth, a fount of perfect wisdom My highest good and my unending need

Worship the living God who exalts the humbly righteous

How can David claim to be dealt with according to his righteousness?

In the middle of life, humility and confession are more vital than perfection… vs. 33

Isaiah 53:11 (ESV)

11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.

1 John 1:9 (ESV)

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. The only way to worship God out of our righteousness is when we realize our righteousness comes from Him.

We look back at what the king has done and look forward to what the King will do.

Look forward to God’s promises of the true King coming

Zechariah 8:22–23 (ESV)

22 Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the Lord. 23 Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’ ”

Psalm 22:27–28 (ESV)

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. 28 For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.

Worship the King by singing, repenting, and stop being lukewarm by seeking Him.
