own husbands…(hit this idea)
ok…let’s go back into the Mariana trench
The text isn’t as extensive, 3 verses. I think intential because, if you are loved in a way i just described by your husband, i think their would be less hesitancy to place yourself under their sacrificial care. Hear what I am about to say carefully, in some senses the call extended to the wife is more simplisit. I said simplistic, not easy. Paul uses two words that accompany your role. We already talked about one of them two weeks ago when we took a whole sermon to talk about verse 21. It is clear that verse 21 is a springboad for out text today because verse 22 literally reads.
Ephesians 5:22 (NA27)
22 Αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν ὡς τῷ κυρίῳ,
The women, to own man as the Lord.
The word “submit” is not in there…the idea is sourced in verse 21 and then assumed in verse 22. And then we see it again in verse in verse 24
Ephesians 5:24 (NA27 w/GRAMCORD, Int.)
24 ἀλλὰ ὡς ἡ ἐκκλησία ὑποτάσσεται τῷ Χριστῷ, οὕτως καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἀνδράσιν ἐν παντί.
Ephesians 5:24 (ESV)
24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives -------- in everything to their husbands.
and then the word actually makes an appearance
It is a Greek verb that means something stunning. In fact the way you say it in English is appropriate.
ὑποτάσσομαι
It is a Greek verb whose meaning is stunning. In fact the way you say it in English is appropriate. When we realize what this word means and that we are required to do it we appropriately say, “oh my!”
What does it mean? Submit to the orders or directives of another. In the context of the overall relating to our brothers in sisters in the collected Body of Christ we are to give our individual rights up for the common good. We say, “Oh my!”
Wives, submit yourself to your husband, respect who He is to you.
Wives, submit yourself to your husband, respect who He is to you.
What this is saying is simply this: the rule of thumb in marriage is you always serve the needs of your spouse before your own. Right away somebody says, “Oh, that means you let the other spouse walk all over you.” You weren’t listening. No. Here’s why. Does your spouse need to walk all over you? Is that good for him or her? Does your spouse need to abuse you? Is that good for him or her? Absolutely not. Therefore, confrontation is the best way to tell whether you have a biblical and not a selfish submissive servant attitude.
