Notes For Verse 8
a [tellest] Hebrew: caphar (HSN-<H5608>), to write or record (Ps. 56:8; 48:12; Gen. 15:5; 2Chr. 2:2).
b [put thou my tears into thy bottle] It was an ancient custom to collect mourners’ tears in a bottle to put in the tomb of a departed loved one or, in some cases, on the grave as an offering. Persian priests would collect mourners’ tears in cotton and squeeze them in the tear bottle, preserving them with great care. Some Persians believed that when all medicines had failed, a drop of tears taken orally would revive a dying man.
c [are they not in thy book?] Question 66. Next, Ps. 56:13. David believed that God records the minutest details of life.
