The Christians True Identity
The Christians True Identity
The Bible is very clear on the fact that we have passed from death to life, that we have been transferred from the kIngdom of darkness the the kingdom of His beloved Son. We are no longer to see ourselves as being part of this world, that we are part of it. We live in the world, yes, but we are not to be part of it. No longer are we to focus our eyes on the things of the world but we are to fix our eyes on the things that are above, we focus on the things that are in heaven - our true and eternal home. No longer are we to allow the things of the world to dominate our thinking process. No longer are we to love the thngs of the world. Drugs, alcohol, pill -popping and the like are to be put to death in our lives as Christians. In fact, anything and everything that is contrary to the will of God is to be put to death in our each and everyone of us as Believers. This is what the Bible and what theologians call sanctification. In fact the moment we accepted Christ, or more accurately, the moment we received Christ and thus became born-again, we became “justified”, that is ,we were declared righteous in God’s sight! I have stated many, many times here as a worship leader. And I have said this with complete confidence because this is what the Bible says. And because we have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness and to the kingdom of His beloved Son, there are certain things that took place in our lives as God’s people. For one thing we are no longer identified as being sinners. And this is what I want to discuss with you this morning. The fact of our new nature and thus the fact that our identity is now different prior to us coming to Christ. Our identity is now “In Christ” and it is radically different from the way it was before we met Christ. Before we gave our lives to Christ, we were lost and destined for God’s just wrath, in what the Bible calls “the Lake of Fire”! This is where all unbelievers will do one day. Thanks to the cross, that is not where WE are going! We, as Christians, are going to the place Jesus is preparing for us - Heaven.
There are many Titles and names that are given to the Born Again Believer. I will only point out a few that I think will encourage you and challenge to live up to.
The first one I want to point out is the most obvious one. That is our righteous standing with God and thus our identity as being Righteous in Christ Jesus. No longer are we identified as being a sinner. A sinner, as you know, will not go to heaven; only those that are righteous will go there. Again, only the Righteous will go to heaven, and that is who you are! Your are Righteous (in Christ)!
2 Cor 5: 21 says, He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Say, “I says, He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. I
