It is Finished: The Three most Powrful Words in The Bible
Thesis: Jesus Completely fulfilled the purpose of the Father by hanging on the Cross and that was to our Great benefit
Text: John 19:28-30
Introduction
We have been on a journey in the book of John and have gotten to this section where for some time i have treated us to the argument that the cup of suffering that Jesus drank was served him by the Father. Friends the horrors of the cross were so horrific that Jesus will feel forsaken by the Father (Matt 27:46) and cry out to him in pain. do we sometimes feel like Jesus on the cross? Do the issues of life beat down on us sometimes? we sure feel like this sometimes. we have sure asked “God where are you”. Jesus faced the worst and that worst was his accomplishing the purpose of the Father. He was a man on a mission. we shall atempt to look for the mission christ accomplished. I invite you to follow in this search. Let me say apriori that i do not intend to be exhaustive on this.
Jesus Came to Do the Father’s will (John 6:38)
The Father’s will is for Jesus to not loose any of all that He has given him Jn 6:39
The will of the father is for Jesus to raise those he has been given at the last day. Jn 6:39.
The will of the Father is for those who look on the Son and believe in him to have eternal life. Jn 6:40.
2. Jesus came to Seek and to Save that which was lost. Luke 19:10.
Jesus could say to Zacchaeus that salvation has come into his house for this too was a son of Abraham. There were some lost heep of Israel that Jesus came to seek and save (Matt 15:24). It is no wonder that he will ask his disciples to not go to the Gemtiles but to go to the lost sheep of Israel (Matt 10:6).
3. Jesus came to save his People from their Sins (Matt 1:21)
4. Jesus came to Reveal the Father (Matt 11:27, John 14:6-11, Heb 1:2-3).
5. Jesus came to Glorify the Father (John 17:4).
Dear friends Jesus was a man on a mission and he saw his mission to this point where he could say “Mission accomplished). He had sucessfully purchased our pardon (Col 1:13-14, 1:21-22).
What does this Mean for Us?
We are saved with an eternal salvation in christ (John 3:16, Rom 8:37-39)
We have the hope of ressurrection (1Cor 15:20-24)
Our sin is forgiven and we are declared righteous (Rom 8:1-2)
We have become the righteousness of God by this act on the cross (2Cor 5:21).
Application
Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved from your Load of sin. This means for you to trust Jesus’ power over that thing. it also means that you shoud trust his promise and have him for your delight/enjoyment, then you see how the things of earth will grow strangely deam.
Forgive others with the same forgiveness you have received from Christ and love them with the same love.
Do not conform anylonger to the pattern of this world but offer your body as a living sacrifice to the lord, holy and pleasing to the lord, knowing that you have become the righteousness of God.
Live on earth as a man on a mission so you can some day say like Paul, i have fought the good fight.... (2Tim 4:7-8)
