Psalm 1
Introduction to the book:
Life is made up of love, hate, joy, sorrow, hope, fear, peace, strife, faith and despair.
The Psalm is a book made up of life’s experiences.
Quote: the psalms touch all the notes in the keyboard of human emotion. (John Phillips)
You will see in scripture that many of God’s people turned to the Psalms.
Jonah
Jesus
Peter
Paul
You will find these come from a variety of historical molds.

Hezekiah during the Assyrian invasion
Israel in Babylonian captivity.
And many more..........
You will also notice prophecies within the Psalm relating to both comings of Jesus Christ.
Birth, life, character, death, resurrection and second coming.
Dreadful days of the coming Antichrist
Authors of the Psalms:
David, Asaph, Sons of Korah, Soloman, Reman the Ezrahite and Moses

Psalm 1
Is divided into two groups of people: The righteous and the wicked.
1) Those who WALK in RIGHTEOUSNESS (v1)
1) Those who WALK in RIGHTEOUSNESS (v1)
The Psalmist starts off by telling us who the blessed person is; the righteous walker.
The person who is HAPPY
This word “blessed” is actually in the plural; HAPPY HAPPY is the man.
You would think God would start this off with the POSITIVE? He however tells of the NEGATIVE.
Marked by things he does not do, places he does not go, books he does not read, movies he does not watch, people he does not associate with, etc.
Why is this person HAPPY HAPPY?
Not listening to ungodly men
Where do you get your advice from? Probably depends which part of you you are more inclined to follow.
Something to ask yourself: “If I follow this advice, will it jeopardize my witness and glorify my Savior?”
Not spending lengthy time with sinful people
Clarification: Nothing bad with being friendly with lost people.
Jesus was friendly with those classified as the most repulsive in society. However, it was for a hight purpose.
We are not to remain in “their way” (participate in the sinful activities)
Examples: Abraham, Lot, Peter.
Not agreeing with the mocker
There have always been those who mock at our faith.
Unfortunately, those people have captured many who were raised in the faith and are not agreeing with them.
Notice the progression here: walking, standing and sitting.
Listening, associating and agreeing
2) Those who delight in righteous pleasure.
2) Those who delight in righteous pleasure.
Notice what catches the mind of this person; God’s Word.
This speaks to not only the reading, but also study, memorization and meditation.
We can all say there is some weakness in one if not in all of these areas.
The Psalmist understood that God’s Word captivating his mind is equal to God’s Spirit captivating his life.
“Meditation” = digestion / understanding / chewing on it / applying it to ones life
Jeremiah 15:16 (KJV 1900) — 16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.
Ezekiel 3:3 (KJV 1900) — 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.
3) Those Who Are Positioned For Prosperity
3) Those Who Are Positioned For Prosperity
Water for drinking is a picture of the Holy Spirit feeding the soul God’s Word.
“Like a tree”
It’s roots are sent down deep.
There is a hidden life of the tree.
Where there are no roots there are no fruits.
Many become more concerned with what is seen above ground and neglect the importance of what is below ground.
“by rivers of water”
the droughts that affect others do not affect him.
“brings forth fruit”
He is a blessing to everyone
“in his season”
There are seasons for rooting and fruiting.
God creates the seasons for the tree.
God provides the resources for the tree.
Don’t rush the fruit. It will come!
“his leaf also shall not wither”
There are two types of trees:
Deciduous & Evergreen
We should look like the evergreen
“shall prosper”
This could be beyond your needs or just enough.
4) The Godless Man
4) The Godless Man
(v4) the unsaved man is living a life without steady control.
Like a ship with a broken motor, steering, at the mercy of the wind and the waves.
There are satanic forces among us today who work in the children of disobedience.
(v5) This person is sadly doomed.
The great white throne judgement.
Everything familiar, worked for, invested in will be gone!
(v6) There are only two ways
We either accepts by faith the ONE who vanquished sin or we end life in failure to fight the battle ourselves.
