Gratitude Psalm 92 TBC WN 11-20-96

We should desire to do a "good thing"

Giving thanks and singing praises to God go hand in hand

1. The Cause for Gratitude

The LORD - God is Great

Our song should reflect thankfulness

Daily - For every day He gives you

As the day begins.. Look ahead by faith and praise Him for His Loving-kindness

Intelligent - Proclaiming His attributes (loving-kindness, faithfulness..)

Continual - Every night and every day

As the day ends.. Look back and praise Him for His Faithfulness

To Praise God there should be:

PREPARATION - instruments should be tuned

BREADTH OF THOUGHT - "upon an instrument of ten strings"

ABSORPTION OF THE WHOLE NATURE - "ten strings"

VARIETY - "psaltery; harp.." Psalm 150

DEEP REVERENCE - "solemn sound"

Our Attitude in Praise:

GLADNESS & TRIUMPH

GOD'S GREATNESS & DEPTH

*"Brutish" has the idea of a "consumer" or "to consume"

*A fool does not understand this.

Between the wicked and God vs 7,8

Between God's enemies and God's friends vs 9-14

"Fresh Oil"

1. Comprehensive

Renewed strength, fresh tokens of favor, confirmation of position,

"horn" is a figure of power (peak of a mountain, ray of light)

qualification for it, and new joys.

2. Well grounded (It rests in God and His promises)

3. Calms all fears

4. Exciting hopes

5. Causing pity for those who have no such confidence

"Fruit"

Flourish like a palm tree (upright and straight)

Growth like a cedar (has tenacity in its roots)

Planted in the house of the LORD ("courts" - in protective enclosure)

Fresh (fat and flourishing)

Perseverance "fruit in old age"

God's Way is Straight "The LORD is upright"

God's Way is Steadfast "He is My Rock"

God's Way is Sinless "There is no unrighteousness in Him"
