Mountains, It’s Time To Move
14 And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,
15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.
16 So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”
18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Mountains - what are mountains?
NOUN
mountains (plural noun)
a large natural elevation of the earth's surface rising abruptly from the surrounding level; a large steep hill.
What mountains are in you facing? What are the sharp elevations in your life? Most mountains usually break down into three categories: Mountains of Sickness; Mountains of Broken Finances; Mountains of Broken Relationships
Mountains of Sickness
There are so many wonderful of verses about divine healing in the Bible. I could go on forever. When I was in middle school, I was diagnosed with Absence Epilepsy. My dad put a healing pray together for me. These verses were meant to build up my faith for what I already knew God could do for me. I prayed this pray multiple times a day. I got to the point that every spare minute this pray was coming into my and mind and when I woke up in the morning, the prayer was the first thing I thought of.
God healed me.
Mountains of Broken Finances
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
There are multiple testimonies of people who were faithful to God and God was faithful to them. A few years back, we had a missionary here at the church, and Mike felt we should dramatically increase our missions pledge. Our budget was already tight and giving to Missions was already a sacrifice. I said, “Ok, you are my husband and you know the finances”. We committed to this new pledge and the next week God gave Mike a $10,000/year raise. You cannot out give God.
Mountains of Broken Relationships
18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
God gives the ability to be reconciled to others once we are reconciled to Him. We have so many examples of relationships being reconciled in the Bible. Some of the most beautiful reconciliations is with family reconciliations. Consider James, the half-brother of Jesus.
5 For even His brothers did not believe in Him.
We know James did not believe at the crucifixion because then is when Jesus made John the protector and provider for Mary. Sometime after the resurrection, James would become a believer. He would lead the new church in Jerusalem. He never claimed family relationship with Christ.
1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings.
He would die a martyr's death. Faith changes everything.
Faith the size of a mustard seed. Being a lot with looking like we have very little.
This is about being spiritual giants because our God is greater than the mountains in our life.
This is about being overcomers because Jesus has overcome the world.
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
What does that mean? It means healed bodies....
It means healed finances....
It means healed relationships....
It is time we live the way we should live. Not as poor as rejected but as royalty.
Let us set aside those things which so easily beset us
Jesus ends this portion of scripture
21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
There in lies the problem. We want it. We want healings. We want miracles. We want divine intervention. We want it now. But are we willing to invest in prayers or fasting for the more difficult things in our life?
Prayer and fasting. Not fun. Sacrifice of time and body comfort.
Where are we going to choose to live our lives? Struggling to scratch out a life in this sin-infested world or as an blood bought saint who has overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony wearing the spotless garments of the redeemed. Where are you this morning?
Conclusion:
A - Acknowledge
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
B - Believe
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
C - Confess
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
The altars are open. Do you have a mountain in your life which need to be removed? Do you have distractions which need to be removed? Do you need to live on a higher plane of existence then what you have been living on? One where chains are broken and life has been restored? This is the time.
