Lord’s Supper

            MANNER To do this willing. A duty but a delight. Come to table of a friend. Take it worthily, verse 27. Certain requirements for taking the supper. Only for the redeemed. 10:20 Only for the saved. I would tremble to take. 11:17-18 For the reconciled. Some are not better off for taking the supper but are the worse. If any hostility, bitterness, ill feelings, do not take for will harm you for this is a symbol of the union and the communion of the body of Christ. What mockery that an unsaved but what mocker for one that has ought against brother. 

            It is also for the reverent. Verse 20. What was meant to be a celebration unto the Lord had become a feast. It is for the repentant. Verse 29ff. Person comes with sin in life he eats judgement to himself. How carelessly we handle Holy things, it would be better to play with forked lightning than to carelessly allow sin to remain and partake.

            Take it watchfully. Verse 29. Not understanding. Not concentrating on. Both bodies, broken and the brothers and sisters in Christ. ((((D’Venci Cup of the Saviour was astounding. Ask friend and said that the cup is beautiful. Drew across and said Nothing shall detract from the person of the Saviour.) Get wrapped up in attendance or the mechanics but you are to see the face of the Saviour. 

            MOTIVE   Verse 23ff. Not means of salvation but a means of adoration.   The Lord Jesus. Means of appreciation. Verse 24. Gave thanks. Means of celebration. Verse 26. Choose a supper, a feast. Means of anticipation. 

            MESSAGE Verse 26, show or proclaim the death. A proclamation of our fellowship in Him. 10:17 We show our unity. And the greatest thing the church has save the Lord Himself is our fellowship with one another.   Proclaim our faith in Him. We say we believe He is the Messiah. Two memorials in the Bible are the passover and the Lord’s supper. The passover looks forward to the coming of the Messiah and the supper looks backward to the death of Messiah and both proclaim the centrality of the cross and our faith in Him. Proclaim our future in Him. Verse 26. Until He comes. Empty chair or Elijah chair and look out to see if He is coming. We have an empty chair not because the Saviour has not come but because when we leave this place everyone of us ought to look outside the door to see if He is coming again. For He is and He’s coming soon. And we say even son come, Lord Jesus.
