Ask for grace with sermon.
I need to pastor Church On the Hill today.
The title of the message / nothing / then something
The number of email, text, appts. side conversations has been overwhelming the past few weeks.
What is the topic everyone is coming to me with? Vaccinate or Not Vaccinate. That is the question?
Can we lay to rest one thing before we get started. This is a nasty bug that has taken away to many lives including the life of my dear neighbor of 13 years.
So what does the scripture say about vaccines? Or any other medical procedure? Nothing!
Romans 14:1 NIV
1 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.
Disputable: dialogismos / Opinions or thoughts
Some issues come down to personal choice.
Romans 14:2–3 NIV
2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.
Contempt: Look down on ridicule
Romans 14:5–6 NIV
5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
Convinced: Greek word to be completely certain.
Romans 14:7–9 NIV
7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
Romans 14:10 NIV
10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
Contempt: Look down on ridicule.
Romans 14:12–13 NIV
12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. 13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.
The shaming that the vaccinated and un-vaccinated have done is not right.
Stumbling block: Drinking in front of someone that does not or has a problem.
Romans 14:14 NIV
14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.
If anyone regards something as unclean / Then it is unclean.
Conscience: That internal compass that God gives to humans. Not the Holy Spirit. Conscience of right and wrong.
They have a guilty conscience.
Romans 14:15 NIV
15 If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died.
Romans 14:16 NIV
16 Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil.
Romans 14:17–18 NIV
17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.
I feel the big C church has been dupped by satan the past few years.
Like a magician Satan has kept us focused on everything else but the mission and vision of Gods church.
Romans 14:19 NIV
19 Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
Romans 14:20 NIV
20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.
Romans 14:21 NIV
21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.
Romans 14:22 NIV
22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves.
Condemns himself? Made the wrong decision and regret it.
Vaccinated church members that regret getting it.
Un-vaccinated in the hospital questioning why didn’t I get it.
Side note: Why does it seem that the vax / non-vax teams are rooting that the other side gets sick? Just to prove they are right? That is wrong.
The delta variant is a pandemic of the un-vax. They sound almost happy when they say that.
Romans 14:23 NIV
23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.
If we do something that we think is sin, even if we are misinformed, we are guilty of sin. We are guilty of doing something we believe to be wrong. We act against our consciences. That is a very important principle. Luther was correct in saying, “It is neither right nor safe to act against conscience.
I am not taking the vaccine because it was made from aborted baby fetuses.
Two thoughts: 1. Did they abort the baby for the purpose of vaccine experiments? 2. Or was the baby aborted then taken by scientist to study and do research?
If you had a son that needed a heart transplant. And another teen committed suicide or was killed by a drunk driver and they were able to save the heart and us it for your son would you use it? You have to decide what God has put on your heart to do.
Tough calls that need to be made.
After praying I feel like I should not take the vaccination.
You may lose your job, and or your health. Or you might not.
After praying about it I am getting the Vaccine. Ok but be aware there may or may not be side affects.
Pray, trust in God and seek Him through the process.
Access your risk: Vaccinated vs. Un-Vaccinated
There are people that have been vaccinated to go on mission trips and have no idea what was in them. But now will not take this vaccine.
I am not here to persuade you to get it or not to get it. I am saying seek God, pray and trust the outcome to Him.
If you get sick from the vaccine, Church on The Hill is here for you.
If you get sick without the vaccine, Church on The Hill is here for you.
If you lose your job because of your convictions we are here for you.
We will not judge you or condemn you either way. God is your judge not us.
