2 Peter 2:4–9 (NLT) — 4 For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment. 5 And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood. 6 Later, God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and turned them into heaps of ashes. He made them an example of what will happen to ungodly people. 7 But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him. 8 Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day.
9 So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment.
KEY- Understand that as Peter was writing this he was refuting false teachers. A claim he was refuting was a false teaching on why bad things happen to good people.

1. The Awesome Authority of God

Nothing is bigger, more powerful, too much, too big, too strong for our God.
POINT- Angles; PRINCIPLE- No one is too high for God.
POINT- Ancient World; PRINCIPLE- God can’t be outnumbered.
Sodom & Gomorrah; PRINCIPLE- You can’t out resource God.
Tonight we need to pray with faith with a fervent heart… Know that what the church is up against in Afghanistan is not a situation that is too great for God.
In the same way God brought confusion on the enemies of God’s people I’m praying God confuse the efforts of evildoers.
Psalm 55:9 (NLT) — 9 Confuse them, Lord, and frustrate their plans, for I see violence and conflict in the city.
QUESTION- If God has all this authority, why would he call us to pray?
God’s word tells us to
Ephesians 6:18 (NLT) — 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Example of Jesus
Prayer aligns our heart
and lastly a principle found in our text…

2. The Awesome Testimony God Gives those who are faithful.

POINT- God is never the author of destruction, but God specializes in turning what the enemy meant for evil and turning it for good.
God used Noah to rescue humanity and the beauty of creation…
God used Lot to lead his family away…
Understand that in the story of Lot and Sodom there was another key player, and that is Abraham who was praying for Lot…
KEY POINT- Those that pray for the miracle are part of the testimony.
