To Whom It May Concern:

Jude who addresses himself as the servant (doulos....a slave of ) of Jesus Christ and the brother of James. Whose proper name was Judas.
Jude was one of the original twelve who was the brother of James (the brother of Jesus) if whom the apostle Paul states in Galatians that James was one the pillars of the church. (Are you a pillar or a prop?) and the other Judas of Luke 6:16.
He is said to be the same Labbaeus who’s surname was Thaddaeus of Matthew 10:3
When the New Testament was translated into English the form Jude was chosen over Judas so that there would be no confusing between this Judas and the Judas who betrayed Jesus.
Jude here as John in this Sunday’s School lesson, is aged and delivering some final wisdom and warnings to the church of God concerning the recapturing of the original faith and anointing of the original Church.
Things can turn cold and common, invigorating over time if the original zeal is not rekindled in your mind and spirit.
This why Paul admonished young Timothy to stir up the gift that was with him.
Jude here enlightens the church against what was to be known as Gnosticism.... the philosophy that deemed physical matter as evil and spiritual things as good. This theory granted the freedom to do what ever with your physical body....as long as you had a proper spiritual life..........This became a theory again in the 90’s in the church...... And there were now many false teachers deceiving the church by corrupting unstable members.
The letter of Jude is directed to the members of the Christian church. As the majority of the New Testament is directed to the believers.
Jud 1:1  Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
Jud 1:2  Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.

The False Teachers

Jude 1:3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Jud 1:4  For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
The tares were sowed by the enemy into the wheat creeping in while the workers slept.

Judgement For The Ungodly

Jud 1:5  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Jud 1:6  And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Jud 1:7  Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Jud 1:8  Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
ISV
Jud 1:13  They are wild waves of the sea, churning up the foam of their own shame. They are wandering stars for whom the deepest darkness has been reserved forever.
Jud 1:15  He will judge all people and convict everyone of all the ungodly things that they have done in such an ungodly way, including all the harsh things that these ungodly sinners have said about him."
Jud 1:16  These people are complainers and faultfinders, following their own desires. They say arrogant things and flatter people in order to take advantage of them.

We Must Persevere

Jud 1:17  But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Jud 1:18  How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
Jud 1:19  These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
Jud 1:20  But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Jud 1:21  Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Doxology (a praise to God)
Jud 1:24  Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
Jud 1:25  To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
