And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)
Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
LOYALTY TO GOD
Faithfulness is really what loyalty is...
A strong feeling of support or allegiance…
When Israel had sinned in regards to the golden calf idol, one of the things Moses did was to challenge the Israelites about who was going to take their stand for the true God, not the golden-calf god.
FIRST—THE SEPARATION IN LOYALTY
He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
“Who is on the Lord’s side? let him come unto me.”
To be loyal to God means separation from that which is not loyal to Him.
Those Israelites who were going to demonstrate that they were loyal to the Lord and were on His side had to separate from the people and stand with Moses.
Separating from the people would not be easy, for many of the people would oppose the separation and try to persuade others that it was not necessary to separate.
They would call separation “legalism” and an “holier-than-thou” attitude.
Those who dared to step out and say they were on God’s side would be subjected to scorn and mocking and ridicule.
Showing loyalty to the Lord is not the way to become popular among the people.
But failure to separate shows that you are not devoted to God and are a coward.
It takes courage to step out for the Lord.
Today there are many people, practices and philosophies from which one much separate if he is going to be loyal to the Lord.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
But separation is not a popular doctrine.
Many stupidly believe they can be worldly and still be a Christian.
SECOND—THE DECLARATION OF LOYALTY
“Let him come unto me.”
If you are going to be loyal to the Lord you must declare it in a public way.
In our text, those who were going to be loyal to the Lord had to go stand with Moses, who was standing in full view of the camp of Israel.
This action separates the men from the boys.
Few will stand conspicuously for the Lord.
They want to melt into the crowd instead of stand for God.
In fact, many feel more comfortable with the crowd that will not stand for God than they do with those that stand for the Lord.
God does not want secret disciples.
He wants those who will stand conspicuously for Him.
Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
THIRD—THE ASSOCIATION IN LOYALTY
“All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together before him.”
When you take a stand for God you will come into the company of those who stand for the Lord.
This will be the best crowd on earth.
There will be good fellowship with them.
It will be a healthy crowd for you spiritually.
It will not be a crowd that will defile you.
It is said that birds of a feather flock together which is another way of saying people of the same likes and interests will associate with each other.
So it is in regards to standing for God.
Some who claim they are Christian are not found in church or other Christian places.
This failure shows the falseness of their profession, for those who stand for the Lord like to be with others who stand for the Lord.
I was glad when they said unto me,
Let us go into the house of the Lord.
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
