Kingdom Qualities
Titus 2:1 (ESV)
1 But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
Introduction:
We now begin at chapter two of this epistle. Chapter one unveiled to us the characteristics expected in those who would serve in leadership of the churches in Crete. We were introduced to Titus, Paul’s protege and mentee. Paul established with Titus the necessity of appointing leaders who were godly and would serve to bring God glory.
Paul also warns Titus of false teachers and disruptive persons who must me taught correctly and rebuked for the good of the Church.
Paul continues now, in chapter two to groom Titus as a pastor to lead the churches in Crete with courage and grace.
We begin with verse one today. This verse is specific to Paul’s expectations of Titus.
Proposition: We must speak what is beneficial for the body of Christ
Transition: This verse shows us two qualities the leader must exhibit in the Church.

Titus 2:1a (ESV)
1 But as for you
This phrase indicates a contrast with the persons mentioned in the preceding verse
those people teach such things, but as for you, you are to speak the things that are in accord with sound teaching.
Paul admonishes Titus to be different from false teachers. Titus 1:16 “16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.”
They led people astray
They were disruptive to the Church
They were disobedient to the Word of God

Application: Our goal cannot be disruption. We must teach what the Lord says.

Titus 2:1b (ESV)
teach what accords with sound doctrine.
Paul tells Titus to speak what lines up with sound doctrine.
“teach”— converse interact, communicate—
define “accords”-
“sound”= healthy- this word used in the manuscript is also the word from which we get the word “hygiene”. Speak what is good for the health of the Church.
