Lord's Table Ceremony

1 Corinthians 11:23–29 KJV 1900

For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

Explain…

We are doing to this as a memorial remembering the Lord’s death.

We are doing this as a time for our own self-examination of sin.

If you to do not repent and confess, then you are eating “unworthily” and will be judged by God. Judgment that may result in sickness and even death (sleep).

You may partake if…

You have genuinely accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior.

You have followed Christ’s example of baptism by immersion publicly identifying with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.

You are a member of this church or a church of like faith.

Procedure for Serving the Bread and the Juice

Ask two men to come forward and remove the top sheet.

Inform everyone that we will partake of the bread and juice together. Please wait for my signal when I give it. The bread and the juice are in a single container that is sealed. Each person will be invited to come forward to receive the elements when I so direct. Note that there are two tabs. The first tab is for the bread. The second tab is for the juice. As you come forward and after you have received the elements, please make your way back to your seat until everyone has finished passing by.

Pastor moves to the floor and hold the element dish.

Everyone is asked to stand and to start coming pew by pew to receive the elements.

After everyone is done, the Pastor receives his element and then goes back to the platform.

Remind everyone that someone will pray, we will read the command given by Christ, and then we will all partake together.
