Romans 5:5
Good evening everyone watching by video this evening,,, it's time for our weekly devotion.
I'm praying that all of you are having a wonderful week so far.
As I've said the last several weeks,,, we need to continue to remember those that are dealing with this virus.
Those that are sick,,, since there are many others dealing with this sickness as it continues to grow and,,, those that have lost loved ones,,, we need to continue to remember them as well.
Remember the medical teams that are dealing with this and any others that must work and take a chance of contacting this virus.
Also,,, continue to remember those on our prayer list,,, and our country and it’s leaders.
---------------
Our devotion this evening comes from Billy Graham's devotion titled "Unto the Hills: A Daily Devotional".
Our scripture will be Romans 5:5 and I'll be reading from the Holman Christian Standard Bible.
Romans 5:5 (HCSB) —
5 This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
God bless the reading and the hearing of your word this evening.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord,,, as we begin this evening,,, with all that are listening and watching by video,,, we ask that you open our ears to hear and our hearts and minds to receive the message that you have for us today,,, In Jesus' name I pray,,, Amen.
---------------
I spend a lot of time talking about the Holy Spirit,,, and the reason why,,, is that we cannot make it today,,, in our daily Christian walk,,, without the help of the Holy Spirit.
No matter what we are going through,,, what type of struggle we are facing,,, or what sin is trying to keep us off the path that we need to walk,,, the Holy Spirit will keep us going where our strength will fail.
And God’s love will never disappoint us,,, or fail us,,, because He is faithful and true to His love,,, even when we fail Him over and over,,, as long as we turn back to Him,,, in repentance and seek to go forward listening to Him in the future.
We may walk away from God,,, but God,,, never leaves us!
And the Holy Spirit helps to keep us on course.
---------------
Billy Graham titled this devotion,,, "GOD’S GYROSCOPE".
He stated,,, Years ago when he traveled to Europe to preach,,, he liked to travel by sea,,, to enjoy the five days on the ship.
On one of those voyages the captain took him down to see the ship’s gyroscope.
The captain told him,,, “When the sea is rough,,, the gyroscope helps to keep the ship on an even keel.
Though the waves may reach tremendous proportions,,, the gyroscope helps to stabilize the vessel and maintain a high degree of equilibrium.”
Billy Graham said that as he listened to the captains words,,, he thought how much the gyroscope is like the Holy Spirit.
Let the storms of life break over our heads.
Let the enemy Satan come in like a flood.
Let the waves of sorrow,,, suffering,,, temptation,,, and testing,,, be unleashed upon us.
Our souls will be kept on an even keel and in perfect peace when the Holy Spirit rules in our hearts.
Billy Graham said,,, Talking about the secret of Spirit-filled living,,, the great evangelist D. L. Moody said,,, “I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and everything that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts. But if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and the world, there is no room for the Spirit of God.”
Is your life on course or off?
If it is off course,,, perhaps you need the equilibrium of God’s gyroscope—His Holy Spirit.
Seek Him and His will for you today.
Our Father and our God, please help us to empty ourselves of pride, selfishness, ambition, and conceit. Fill us with Your Spirit, every corner of our heart and mind. Give us the spiritual equilibrium we need every day. And help us to depend on Jesus for our balance. In His name. Amen.
