Some Questions for Discussion: Focus the discussion on: The beauty of sex. How do Christians and nonChristians deny the beauty and goodness of sex? 1. The reading began with 1:15. a. What if it had begun with 1:12? How would you react? Why? b. Have you wondered why the Song of Songs is in the Bible? What conclusions have you come to? 2. What attitudes towards sex did you grow up with (in the church and in the world)? 3. Discuss 2:7 a. In what ways does our culture rush romantic love? b. Compare our culture to others with regard to romance, sex and marriage (especially if you have the benefit of someone in your group from another culture or one who has lived in another culture). 4. Read: Exodus 20:2 (the portal to all the commands) and I Cor. 6:19-20. a. Comment on the following expressions: God is your Lord; your body is not your own; you were bought with a price. b. Are these claims hard to swallow? How do they challenge our mindset? c. “Glorify God in your body” – does it seem strange and unholy to think of sex as a way of glorifying God? What does that say about our thinking? 5. The survey mentioned in the sermon said 61% of professing Christian singles believe sex outside of marriage is OK. a. How would you respond to someone who believed that, and who came to you for advice about relationships with the opposite sex? b. What would you say to a Christian friend who felt defeated in this area? (See I Cor. 6:11) 6. What degrades sex – and why? What makes sex beautiful – and why?
