Sermon Notes Short Review January 8, 2017 Song of Songs 5:1b Briefly summarize the message. Look for the following main points: a. What is God saying in this verse? b. What does this tell us about God? c. How do we honor the ‘host’? Some Questions for Discussion: Focus the discussion on: What sex, marriage and romance tells us about the God who created all of it for us? 1. Honest self-evaluation: How many here feel a bit uncomfortable hearing about sex/physical intimacy in church? Why or why not? 2. Why does Scripture talk about these things? (See Song of Songs; Proverbs 5:18,19; I Cor. 7:1ff). 3. Read the second part of Song of Songs 5:1. a. What is the context of the verse? What is it talking about when it says eat, drink…? b. How does this verse contradict pictures of God in our culture? c. How does this verse contradict pictures of God in the Church? (Comment on how you picture Jesus behaving at the wedding in Cana – John 2.) 4. How does belief in God as Creator form the foundation for Christian sexual morality? 5. How would you explain to a young Christian (or your children/students) why you believe sexual intimacy outside marriage is wrong? 6. Do we make too much of sexual immorality? It isn’t the worst sin, is it? Why does God care? 7. Read Hebrews 13:4 a. How should married people honor marriage and honor God? b. How should single people honor marriage and honor God?
