The Deity of the Messiah

Jesus’ reveals His nature patiently and gently Some Questions for Discussion: Focus the discussion on: What does the O.T. teach about the nature of the Messiah? Was He divine, God incarnate? 1. Think about the word ‘Christ.’ a. Is it Jesus’ last name? What is it? b. What does the Word mean/convey today inside and outside the Church? c. Do you know what various segments of Judaism believe about the Messiah? 2. Can you summarize “Jesus’ Puzzle?” What was Jesus getting at? 3. Have you ever had a visit from the Jehovah’s Witnesses? Do you know what they believe about Jesus and His deity? How did you interact with them? 4. How would you answer this challenge, “Jesus didn’t think He was God; show me one place where He said, ‘I am God’”? [Leader: role play, be the ‘devil’s advocate’, push for specific, clear answers.] 5. What are the obstacles in our culture when it comes to explaining the doctrine of the incarnation? What kinds of questions or alternative explanations about who Jesus was do you hear from friends and neighbors? 6. Tell the story of anyone you know (maybe you!) who: a. Came to faith in Christ just from reading or studying the Bible? b. Came to faith in Christ because they were healed? c. Came to faith in Christ because they saw some miracle or deliverance? 7. Why is it important – to you, in your Christian walk – that Jesus was God incarnate? How does that affect your walk, your worship, your witness?
