Matthew 15:1-9
Short Review : Review the main points of the morning message.
Some Questions for Discussion: Focus the discussion on: Sola Scriptura – the Bible is the only, the final,
authority when it comes to our faith and living the Christian life.
1. Do you remember a time, when you were growing up, when you ‘worked’ mom and dad against each other
to get your way? What happens in a home when parents don’t agree?
2. Summarize the competing authorities which Martin Luther faced – what brought him to declare Sola
Scriptura?
3. Think about your friends, co-workers, school mates and family –
a. What do they rely on to decide what is right and wrong, or good and bad?
b. What forms their thinking, what changes their thinking?
4. What was the conflict described in our text?
5. Are all traditions always in conflict with Scripture? Why or why not? Give examples.
6. What are some traditions among Christians today concerning the church or living the Christian life, which:
a. Are in conflict with Scripture?
b. Which may not be in conflict with Scripture, but which are followed almost like they are Scripture?
7. How has reading and studying the Bible changed what you once believed as true, or the way you now worship or live
the Christian life?
8. What are practical ways in which we can be “reforming” today? What are ways in which the Bible can be reshaping
our thinking, living, worshipping, serving?
