Sermon Notes May 13, 2018 I Kings 17:8-24 Short Review Review the main points of the morning message. Some Questions: Focus on: The challenges moms (parents and others) feel in obeying God’s Word and loving Him above their own children/family. 1. What resonated with you from the Sunday message? Are there thoughts, comments or questions? 2. 3. Discuss the challenges which the widow of Zarephath faced culturally, emotionally, spiritually? How would you evaluate the request? 4. Read Luke 4:24 -27. a. Discuss the point Jesus is making to these people of Nazareth who have rejected His Word. b. What does Jesus say about the widow? c. From this perspective, what was God’s plan for the widow in the events described in I Kings 17? [Is the story about God providing food for Elijah, or is it about God nurturing faith in a pagan woman? How did He do this?] 5. What brought the widow to the point of saying (vs. 24), “Now I know…”? 6. What does it take to bring people to the point of trusting the Word of God? What hinders them? How does God work in them? 7. How can we pray for one another, our children, mothers – or loved ones who are far from the Lord – in response to this portion of God’s Word?
