Sermon Notes June 3, 2018 I Kings 22:1-40 Short Review Review the main points of the morning message. Some Questions: Focus on: How we honor God in the way we listen to the Word of God 1. People tell lies – that’s not a surprise. Kids do it, some sales people do it, politicians do it. a. How can you tell if someone is lying to you? b. Why is it important to know? What ‘tests’ do you use? 2. What resonated with you from the Sunday message? Are there thoughts, comments or questions? 3. Think about the “church service” in verses 10-11. a. Try to describe what it would have been like to be part of it. b. What would you think of “Rev. Zedekiah’s” sermon? [Note that ‘acting out a message’ is not unusual and even the prophets of God do that at times.] 4. What was attractive or appealing about the message from Zedekiah and his companions? 5. Put yourself in Micaiah’s shoes: what was going on his head? What was he feeling, thinking, deciding? [When, do you suppose, did he come to the conclusion announced in verse 14 – after he heard what was said in verse 13? Before? As a part of his commissioning as prophet?] 6. Read 19-23, Ephesians 6:10, and Matthew 13:19 and comment on the various kinds of spiritual battles which are taking place when the word of God is proclaimed. 7. We often hear that it is wrong to ‘judge’ others. a. Is it wrong to ‘judge’ whether a preacher is (or is not) preaching the Word of God? [See e.g. I Thess. 5:19, 21] b. How do you make this judgment? 8. How can we pray for one another – or loved ones who are far from the Lord – in response to this portion of God’s Word?
