John 1:35-42
Short Review
Review the main points of the morning message.
Focus on: How God works through witnesses to draw men and women to Jesus.
Some Questions for Discussion:
1. Let’s begin by asking:
a. Are there things you’d like us to discuss? Or things which struck you this morning which you’d
like to share?
b. Did you write down any ideas you want to talk about, questions you have? Were there particular
applications to your own life which the Spirit was making?
2. Did you ever notice how often commercials on TV or radio use “testimonials?” [I tried this and…] Why are
they so effective, why do we like to hear what “ordinary people, not paid actors” say about a product?
3. Witnesses in this text:
a. Why did Andrew act on the witness of John the Baptist?
b. Why did Peter respond to the witness of Andrew?
4. Who were the first witnesses to Jesus in your life?
a. Were there others later? How did God use the later and earlier ones together?
b. Were there “witnesses” whose Christian lives turned you off from Jesus, distracted you? Why?
c. Which witnesses had the most influence on you, why?
5. How do people “explore” Jesus and who He is? What are some of the methods and tools which are useful?
How would you advise someone who asked you for help in this?
6. How is the church body – all of us – a place where people can meet and get to know Jesus? [You might
want to read, e.g., I Cor. 12 – church is body of Christ; I Cor. 3:16 where the “you’s” are all plural – Holy
Spirit’s dwelling place, temple, is the church body; I Cor. 14:24,25]
7. Notice the pattern: Witness - > draws someone to explore Christ -> out of joy of finding Christ he/she
becomes a witness -> draws someone else to explore Christ and on and on…
a. In view of this, how should we pray for loved ones and friends who are not in the faith?
b. How should we pray for ourselves?
8. How can we pray for one another in response to the word today?
