Sermon Notes: April 14, 2019 Psalm 110 Short Review Review the main points of the morning message. Focus on: How to respond when the Enemy takes advantage when we feel far from God. Some Questions for Discussion: 1. Review the key points in some of the Psalms of lament we have looked at in past weeks. E.g. Ps. 13, 102, 42, 44 etc. a. Point to key verses and the group to recall details. b. How can we make these Psalms our prayers? 2. Read Matthew 26:57-68. a. Rehearse the events of the previous few hours for Jesus. What had He prayed in Gethsemane and why did He pray Psalm 22:1 on the cross? Describe His “emotional” state. b. Why was Psalm 110 on His mind on this dark night? 3. Look at Psalm 110: What does it mean for Christ to be King? How is this a comfort to us? [E.g. Matt. 28:18 – why is this good news for us?] 4. What does it mean for Christ to be a priest after the order of Melchizedek? How is this a comfort to us? [E.g. Mt. 28:20 – how is this a priestly promise (to be for us and with us}? Or consider e.g. Hebrews 4:14f, 7:23-28] 5. Is there a danger of only singing songs of lament? (Especially when the confessions of God’s love are left out – like Psalm 13:5, 6] Can our dark emotions be given more power if we forget the songs of hope? 6. What Psalms, Choruses or hymns comfort you when the darkness seems to close in around you? Would you share some for the encouragement of others? 7. How can we pray for one another in response to the word today?
