1 Samuel 18:1-5
Short Review:
Review the main points of the message
Some Questions:
1. Seeing a foreshadowing of the gospel in the OT is so beautiful. Can you think of other places
where this can be found? e.g., 2 Sam. 14:14, Is. 53
2. Discuss the statement: God does not treat as we deserve, instead He meets our greatest
need.
3. Discuss the sobering thought: The blessings of the child are linked to the obedience of the
parents. Ex. 20:5-6
4. David talked to God, listened to God, and followed God during times of sadness and stress.
What are some common ways that the world might handle anger and stress?
5. What does it mean ‘To pursue God’s heart we must understand the condition of our own
heart?’ e.g., separation.
6. Read Ps. 51 and discuss some ways that David identified with his separation from the Lord.
Then discuss the steps he took to return or move closer to the Lord.
7. What does it mean when we say, ‘God pursues us with a covenant love.’?
8. Can you identify other places in the bible where God made a commitment to His covenant
love? e.g., Garden of Eden, Noah, Abraham, preservation of the nation Israel, and in Christ
(i.e., the New Covenant).
9. What motivated David to accept, retrieve, and restore Mephibosheth?
10. How can we explain to someone that we are the object of God’s quest?
11. It was noted that God’ heart declaration to His quest can be found in 2 Cor. 1:20, what does
that mean?
