David was promised, prophesied to , and anointed to be King of all of Isreal but he started as the King of Judah only. There was 11 tribes that did receive him we Saul died.
Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them. But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s host, took Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim; And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel. Ish-bosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David. And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
The purpose of this message to encourage believers to not despite small beginning but keep making progress to complete God purpose.
Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying,
Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit,
Saith the Lord of hosts.
Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain:
And he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house;
His hands shall also finish it;
And thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you.
For who hath despised the day of small things?
For they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven;
They are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
After 10 years of being chased, threaten, and denied of his place in the his promise. David could easily given up
And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.
David was promised wealth
David was promised to exempt from taxes
David was promise the King’s daughter
David was anointed by Samuel to be the next King.
None of these promises have been fulfilled yet. Finally Saul has died; now David can get all that he was promised. However, David still had opposition.
Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.
Judah is only one of the 12 tribes of Isreal - so David became King of a small part of the Isreal.
The same spirit that used Saul to hold on to power is now using Saul’s captain Abner. Abner was Saul’s uncle.
But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s host, took Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
Abner knew David was supposed to be the next - He heard Saul himself said so.
Abner knew that Ish bosheth was not competent enough nor qualified to be king,
Abner had a grudge against David. David rebuked Abner because he did not protect Saul.
Abner wanted to stay in power.
What to do when hindrance occurs while you are going after your destiny.
Despise not small beginning
Everything begin small
Everything begin small
Every thing begin as a though , a concept, an ideal. Even the earth was framed by the Word of God.
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Demonstration- Show an apple seed and ask the congregants “What do you see?”
The answer: A forest of apples
Small beginning allows us to go through the process of reaching our full potential of greatness because it allows us to answer four question that are essential to fulfilling your purpose .
Who am I? (Identity)
Where did I come from ? (Heritage)
Why am here? (Purpose)
What am I capable of doing?(Potential)
Where am I going? (my destination)
You were sent here to do something valuable. God created everything for a purpose.
