The Names of God Series
Parts I & II
What's in God's name?
What power does God's name have?
Why should I care about God's name?
To begin with I'd like to explore some of the names of God and so where do we start? I was always taught from before kindergarten to start reading my book from the beginning. And so where do we start with the Bible?
At the beginning.
Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
So what's in a name? Who created the heaven and the earth?
Elohim 5x When we start with the bible we ought to say Elohim created everything.
Elohim is the name that God starts with. That's interesting because of the hundreds of names used for God, God starts off with Elohim meaning the Supreme God the strong One.
Elohim is used more than 2,570 times in Scripture.
Elohim reminds us of His Strength and Power.. In this life humankind was not designed to live our lives without God's power ever present in our lives.
In the book of Genesis the bible begins with God. It's always a great policy to begin with God . The first book of the bible according our canonization of it is Genesis. The name Genesis means origin or birth or beginning. Genesis is filled with beginnings.
In Genesis God created the universe
In Genesis God created Humanity
In Genesis mankind messed up and brought sin into the world
In Genesis God developed the establishment of civilization
In Genesis God established the Jewish Nation as His chosen people.
In Genesis God created and sustains everything and Elohim in 2021 is actively involved in restoring humankind.
In the holy bible the book of Genesis is attributed to being written by Moses. And We know from biblical history that Moses wrote the first five books of the holy bible. They are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. However; the book's starring character Abraham lived nearly 1,000 years before Moses was born. So how do we account for this massive collection of biblical truths on the origin of creation, the origin of humankind, and really the origin of everything. Heres' how " All scripture was written by the inspiration of God".. Meaning that Elohim put the stories of creation in the hearts of
in -trusted men.And Over time centuries and centuries later Elohim the Supreme God, the Strong One maintained the integrity of the biblical accounts by word of mouth. By word of mouth the Elders kept in tact the details that Elohim imprinted in their minds and their hearts. I believe it because Elohim Himself used His mouth and said let there be, and it was.
All Elohim had to do was speak and it was. Elohim created the universe in seven days.
Day One In Genesis God created the heaven and the earth. Elohim did it
Day one In Genesis Elohim said Let there be light and came day and night and Elohim's creation is still functioning perfectly.
Day two In Genesis Elohim separates the sky from the water. That means that the water that's on planet earth never fly's off the planet and go into outer space.
Day three In Genesis Elohim separates the land from the water, Then God creates plant life and vegetation
Day four In Genesis Elohim creates the sun, moon and stars.
Day five In Genesis Elohim create the fish in the seas and the birds in the air
Day six In Genesis Elohim creates the land animals and God says let us make made in our own image. And here is where the trinity is introduced. The Father Son and Holy Ghost. Elohim
Day seven In Genesis Elohim rests and declares Creation excellent.
It was Elohim It is Elohim and it ever shall be Elohim. And just before we move on let's have a word of prayer from using the name Elohim.
Elohim thank you for making Yourself known to us. Thank You for Your power, Your might, and Your strength. Help of O Lord God Elohim to never doubt Your strength but to always rely on You strength every second, every minute, every hour, and every day of our lives. Elohim please keep on revealing Yourself to us, because recognize that You made us, You know all about us, and that we just can't get along without You in our lives. Elohim we want to know more about You because we love You, Amen.
2. Love God with all your heart with all your mind and with all your strength.....
Hebrew Word: ‏יהוה
Transliteration: yhwh
Phonetic Pronunciation: yeh-ho-vaw'
Root: from <H1961>
2. JEHOVAH ADONAI the Self Existing One meaning He doesn't have beginning of days or ending of days Jehovah Adonai was is . He always will be is
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (KJV)
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
That means that Jehovah Adonai God has to be First and some people say Jesus is my savior, but their lifestyle and behavior doesn't not line up with Jesus being their Lord.....Listen to me, It just saying Jesus is my Savior does not automatically denote, depict, or demonstrate that Jesus is the Lord of my Life...You have to live a sanctified life.
Listen to me you can't get better or heal or progress until you stop rebelling against God.God is not going to release favor upon the person who has decided that they are not going to give the best of their time their talents and their treasures.....
"You Have To Love God!!!!!!"
Write this down Loving God and giving Him Glory is the Summon Bonum "The Highest Good"
Teach me Pastor--- When God sees that you Love Him He'll take care of you.
Lastly, If you don't teach your children the word of God then it's not their fault if they come out
"A flawed flipped out failure that fizzle before the finish". Teach them to Love God Love Jehovah Adonai
He loves us so much
3.Elohim Ahavah the God who loves
Look at Jeremiah 31:3
Jeremiah 31:1-3 (KJV)
1 At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.
2 Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
This is about Elohim Ahavah restoring Israel and the application in 2021 is that God loves me Elohim Ahavah loves me and will restore every the devil has stolen from you.
4.El Roi- the God who sees me.
Genesis 16:13-14 (KJV)
13 And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
14 Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
Sometimes we feel helpless and all alone. Hagar felt all alone and it was a dark moment in her life.Long story short Sarah told Hagar to go in there and have a baby for her husband Abraham.
Hagar was Sarah's hand maiden. And Hagar was being what they have now-a-days a surrogate mother.meaning?
then And after the baby comes
Sarah in her old age have a baby too. Hagar child Ishmael is teasing little Isaac and Sarah ain't having it. so Sarah tells Abraham to put Hagar out. And Abraham puts Hagar out and thus we have the first recorded story of a single mom in the scriptures.
So El Roi the God who sees , knows all about what you're going through and so
Here's my prayer You are the God who sees me. Thank You for keeping Your eyes on me.Thank You for knowing about my situation and caring about every detail of my life. Thank You El Roi knowing understanding and actively doing something positive about my issues in this life, Amen.
5. El Shaddai the All Sufficient One, God Almighty
Genesis 17:1-6 (KJV)
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
God changed Abram's name to Abraham father of many nations because
El Shaddai has limitless power and limitless provisions. So brothers and sisters it behooves us to to tap into El Shaddai the All sufficient One, God Almighty's power. And when you have a real realtionship with Him
What ever we are going through El Shaddai can handle it. It's so wonderful to have a God that is All sufficient in every area of our existence. That's deep because some friends and love one can do this and some can do that but none of them can do it all.
So here's my prayer El Shaddai help us realize and recognize that You are an All Sufficient Savior. Please allow us keep our covenant with You and tap into Your power and keep You first and foremost in our life. You are the only God that we can place our trust in for faith, salvation, and fulfillment. Amen.
6. Shaphat the Judge
Genesis 18:25 (KJV)
25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
Shaphat the Judge of all the earth, surely He will Judge righteously.
Surely Shaphat will do what's right concerning His People because He's the Judge of the earth.Well the story goes that God shows up in the plains of Mamre. And God taking Human form came down and ate with Abraham. God said all of this sodomy in Sodom and Gomorrah is a stink in my nostril and I'm quite tired of it. Abraham asked God Shaphat the Judge of the earth Lord if You find 50 righteous will you destroy the cities? Abraham asked Shaphat the Judge of the earth so much until he got down to 10 people. Abraham thought about the sins of the sodomites and his bar was lowered and lowered. And when you go along with a terrible set of sins, it makes you compromise your standards. That's called synretinism. And what's so bad today is that morality gender identification with the LGBTQ etc. and gone to new levels. And anybody who says what the bible says about sodomy is going down a very slippery slop. It's a slippery slop because I have friends and associates who are one of those titles LGBTQ or whatever. I won't stop be friends with them no matter what But for the record I'm straight. I love my wife and not another man.
And so Shaphat the Judge still sits up high and looks down low. Here's our prayer Lord You are Just and fair at all times and in every way, no matter what the norms are or culture dictates. Lord Shaphat the Judge I pray for those who are oppressed and need You to be the Righteous Judge. Father God I humbly ask You to bring justice to them quickly. Amen
7. Jehovah Jireh The Lord my Provider
Genesis 22:11-14 (KJV)
11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Sometimes God will require us to have blind faith. Sometimes God is ask us to give up the most precious person place or thing that's in our lives. In this case it's Abraham's baby boy Isaac. Well in Genesis 16 Sarah had told Abraham to put Hagar and her bastard son Ishmael out. Abraham talk to the God El Roi and El Roi said put Hagar out and I will provide for her and her son. Then Sarah and Abraham have Isaac
in their old age, and God tells Abraham to bring his baby boy to the top of
Mount Moriah and sacrifice his unto the Lord up on the mountain. That's a hard pill to swallow. But Abraham is faithful and proceeds up Mount Moriah to carry out this gruesome task. And right before he's about to kill his baby boy, the speaks and says Abraham, Abraham, don't kill your only son. Look over yonder there is a ram in stuck in the bushes, sacrifice the ram. The Lord said I see your heart. In other words I'm convinced that you're 100% in my corner. And Abraham called the Place Jehovah - Jireh The Lord My Provider.
Here's our prayer. Lord God Jehovah Jireh we are so grateful that You are our provider. We believe that even in impossible situations and with impossible odds, You have the power strength and ability to provide a way out of no way. Thank You for being God and God all by Yourself. We put our trust in You for even Solomon said trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thy own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge Jehovah Jireh and the Lord my provider, He will direct our pathways. Thank You Lord for taking charge of our lives because we just can live without You being in control of our lives. Amen
8. Elohim Shama The God who hears.
Exodus 2:23-25 (KJV)
23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
When you're in trouble you need a God, man I mean real trouble that's when you need Elohim Shama. The text says that the children of Israel were in trouble because one Pharoah died and the next pharoah was even worse.Exodus 2:1 starts off with the Moses story but by verse 23 Moses was gone into the land of Midian and had married Zipporah and had had a son named Gershom. and the children of Israel were in trouble. Brothers and sisters I'm so glad that we can call on Elohim Shama because the text says God heard their prayers. God heard their groanings. God knew their pain, suffering, and bondage. And in 2021 ELOHIM SHAMA knows our conditions, situations, and circumstances.
And furthermore The God Elohim Shama had already made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And for the record
Elohim Shama always honors His contractual agreement ( Covenant) That contract can not be broken by any other force in the universe.God will never break His own law, His own command, His own covenant.
So here's our prayer "Oh Lord God Elohim Shama, thank You for noticing and hearing our prayers. Thank You Lord for Your Love , Your Care, and Your Concern. I know that Your heart Elohim Shama is good and that You will always respond in the best way possible for us. We fully trust You Elohim Shama with our very lives.
9. I AM I AM THAT I AM
Exodus 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Now God speaks to Moses and says you go back to Egypt where you're wanted for murder and tell the Israelites that I've sent you. And Moses a man who has a speech impediment say but but, but Lord who shall I say sent me and when they ask what's Your name Lord, What shall I tell them? The Lord say tell them that The Great I AM has sent you and they'll listen. For four hundred years the children of Israel had been living in Egypt and for most of that time they were in bondage. It started off alright but after Joseph died the bible says that there was a pharaoh that knew not God. And that's when all hell broke loose on the children of Israel. And in our lives sometimes we have to recognize when the road has grown up and it's time to move on.
Here's my prayer, Lord God Jehovah, The Great I Am That I Am God we are so honored to be able to call your name. Because Your name has the Ultimate Power Your name has Unlimited resources and Your name have bountiful Blessings attached to it. When we can't call on any other name we can call on I AM That I AM and we know You will come and see about us.
10. YAH SELF-EXISTENCE- "I AM
Exodus 15:1-2 (KJV)
1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
11. Jehovah Shalom The Lord is Peace
Judges 6:24 (NCV)
24 So Gideon built an altar there to worship the LORD and named it The LORD Is Peace. It still stands at Ophrah, where the Abiezrites live.
I was lead to this passage of the names of God because I was stressing over the vicissitudes of life and God told me you don't need money, you don't need stuff and things, you need my favor. You need Shalom-- Listen to me Shalom is the full measure of peace operating in your life. This is a gift from God. The bible tell us that Gideon defeated the Midianites and built and altar to God that declared that The Lord is peace. Jehovah Shalom The Lord is Peace. If you're in covenant with God , Listen God will rescues His Children.
God Chastises Israel
The story goes that Israel again went back, to reverted back to, cheated back to baal worship .After God defeated their enemies with Judge Deborah and Warrior Barak, Israel backslide. When God deliver us from something we need to stay away from it. Judges 6:1-9 tells us that Israel went backwards worshipping idol gods. As a result, God punished them for seven years. God had the Midianites invade Israel over and over and over. But there invasions were precisely timed. Every time Israel crops were to be harvested the invaders would come. They would take their crops and sheep and cattle and donkeys and as a result Israel became very poor.
And anytime somebody is taking 95% of your income away for whatever reason your poor.
If you let the devil steal 95% of your income you're barely making it. Again if God delivers you from a past sin you should not go back to it. God is punishing Israel for reverting back to baal worship. Israel no have to hide in caves because the Midianites had come and camped out in the land. The Midianites took over.
God Rebukes Israel
And in Judges 6:6-10 Israel finally cries out to the Lord. God sends Israel a prophet (unknown prophet) to tell Israel that I brought you out of slavery in Egypt I gave you the land of Canaan, and I drove out the Amorites. I told you not to worship their gods but no no no Israel You had to clown. time after time you have shown a backsliding spirit. Israel only repented because of pain hurt harm or danger. True Repentance looks different than what Israel displayed.
Israel had already experienced forty-three years of suffering under the harsh rule of the neighboring nations, but! they hadn't yet learned their lesson and turned away from the heathen idols. They keep on serving baal. A contemporary jazz group called Brass Construction wrote a song that said "keep on keep that same old feeling" but if that feeling is not holy we need to change.
And listen Unless our suffering leads to repentance, it accomplishes no lasting good; and unless our repentance is evidence of a holy desire to turn from sin, not just escape from pain, repentance is only remorse. Chastening assures us that we are truly God's children, that our Father loves us, and that we can't get away with rebellion.
God Came Down To Help Israel Judges 6:11-13 This is when God lowers His voltage and come down to planet earth in the for of Christ. The reason I said Christ even though it's a New Testament terminology is because in verse 12 the word LORD is capitalized, and it denotes the presence of Jehovah Adonai but The Father always send to SON to do the in person interviews.
The angel of the comes and interview Gideon to for the job of delivering Israel from baal worship conquering the Midianites and restoring the worship of Jehovah Adonai
And Gideon starts to complain while hiding out. Lord if you're going to do all that then why is Israel in such bad shape. Why are they defeating us so badly. And Lord why choose me Gideon was saying in essence I know I'm not any good, my family is poor and low on the totem pole. Why me? But listen God is Sovereign He can do what He want when He want to whom ever He wants.
So Gideon tempts God!! and what surprises me most is that God goes along with Gideon in his either ignorance or irreverent behavior. Simply put either Gideon's stupid or disrespectful or both. When you consider the kind of man Gideon was at this time, you wonder why God selected him.
Listen to me oftentimes God chooses the "weak things of this world" to accomplish great things for His glory (1 Cor. 1:26-29). Gideon's family worshiped Baal (Judg. 6:25-32), but Gideon did not join in them and that's why Gideon was considered an outcast with his family.
Gideon wasn't a man of strong faith or courage, and we can tell that by the way he questioned God and casually talked with God. The un- church-ed generation treats God with this He's the man upstairs Jesus is my dawg just a casual acquaintance and I'm so thankful that God put up with me because I can remember talking stupid to God too. God had to patiently work with Gideon to prepare him for leadership. God is always ready to make us what we ought to be if we're willing to submit to His will (Eph. 2:10; Phil. 2:12-13). When the Lord said that Gideon was going to save Israel in Judges 6:14
Gideon's negative response to the Lord's words indicates his lack of faith and spiritual perception. Here was Almighty God telling him that He was with him and would make him a conqueror, and Gideon replied by denying everything God said! God would have to spend time with Gideon turning his question marks into exclamation points. Gideon was living by sight, not by faith, and had he remained that way he would never have been named among the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11.
Gideon say well Lord prove it to me verse 17 says what sign shall the Lord give?
Judges 6:17-22 (NCV)
17 Then Gideon said to the LORD, “If you are pleased with me, give me proof that it is really you talking with me.
18 Please wait here until I come back to you. Let me bring my offering and set it in front of you.“ And the LORD said, “I will wait until you return.“
19 So Gideon went in and cooked a young goat, and with twenty quarts of flour, made bread without yeast. Then he put the meat into a basket and the broth into a pot. He brought them out and gave them to the angel under the oak tree.
20 The angel of God said to Gideon, “Put the meat and the bread without yeast on that rock over there. Then pour the broth on them.“ And Gideon did as he was told.
21 The angel of the LORD touched the meat and the bread with the end of the stick that was in his hand. Then fire jumped up from the rock and completely burned up the meat and the bread! And the angel of the LORD disappeared!
22 Then Gideon understood he had been talking to the angel of the LORD. So Gideon cried out, “Lord GOD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!“
Gideon thought he was going to die because he realizes the foolishness of his folly treating the Almighty God like one of your boys out there in the streets.
Gideon had sense enough to know that anybody who had ever lived to see God face too face would die especially talking foolish and crazy to God as Gideon did.
And God look beyond Gideon faults and saw to Gideon's need. Substitute Gideon name and put your name there
because if we look at verse 23 Judges 6:23 (NCV)
23 But the LORD said to Gideon, “Calm down! Don’t be afraid! You will not die!“ I'm saying You should die !!! but God says you will not die,oh what a good God we serve.
Judges 6:24 (KJV)
24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
Everything we present to you in bible study or sermon format will always be straight from the bible.
It's alright to show intellect but even better to let God show us revelation through His word.
Let's pray Lord thank you for granting us life and favor. Lord thank you for life and life more abundantly.
And lord Just like Gideon thank you for uncommon favor coming upon our lives.
We believe in new life and new favor. Lord we believe that favor is one of your gift from Heaven and we just want to say thank you. We receive the gift of life and the gift of eternal life. Lord we receive the gift of favor on our lives today and the gift of your amazing grace upon our lives in the mighty, matchless, majestic name of Jesus. Amen.
Part II. Jehovah Shalom
Jehovah Shalom continued in Judges 7 . Nothing before, nothing behind; The steps of faith Fall on the seeming void, and find The rock beneath. That rock is the Word of God.
The story of Gideon defeating the Midianites is a story about faith in action. The name of God that we discovered was Jehovah Shalom, The Lord Is Peace. As we recap and review and recapitulate back over the main theme of the Judges 6&7 text, we find some interesting facts.
Here’s the recap of the entire story. Israel went back to baal worship. God got angry and allowed the Midianites to invade them over and over at the precise times of Israel’s harvests and this left Israel very poor and starving. God hears Israel’s cries. God Chastises Israel reminds them of their sins but decides to help them. God uses Gideon and The Angel of the Lord in essence interviews Gideon for the job. Gideon complains and wines and even tempts God with foolishness. And what’s surprising it that God allowed Gideon to do it.
God was patient with Gideon because Gideon’s faith was weak. And after Gideon realizes that he had been talking to God face to face, he thought God was going to kill him. He thought he was going to die and then In Judges 6:24 Gideon built an altar to the Lord and called the place Jehovah Shalom, The Lord is peace.
Then in Judges 7 God tests Gideon’s faith. Listen a faith that can’t be tested is a faith that can’t be trusted. Gideon had 32,000 soldiers ready to fight, and God sifted them down to 300 mighty men. And the reason being is that Israel would have said “we defeated the Midianites by out selves and we didn’t need God”. God get the glory. I can’t do nothing without God. Our pride will rob God of his glory, and God isn’t going to have it.
Long story short God had Gideon divide The 300 men in three separate groups 100 by 100 by 100. Then Gideon gave each man a ram’s horn and a clay lantern with a light in it. And upon Gideon signal everybody was to blow the ram’s horn then break the lantern with the light in it and Shout The sword of the Lord and of Gideon. This strategy worked!!! Because the Midianites were confused, and they freaked out flipped out and then flashed out on each other. They killed themselves Jehovah Shalom show up showed out and showed off. Jehovah Shalom The Lord is peace
12. Jehovah - Nissi
The Lord My Banner
Exodus 17:15 .
Exodus 17:15-16 (NCV)
15 Then Moses built an altar and named it The LORD is my Banner.
16 Moses said, “I lifted my hands toward the LORD’S throne. The LORD will fight against the Amalekites forever.“ There comes a time in our lives that we have to fight our enemies.
And Moses and the children of Israel was fighting against the Amalekites. Let's read the text again from the Young Literation bible
Exodus 17:15-16 (YLT)
15 and Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,
16 and saith, `Because a hand is on the throne of Jah, war is to Jehovah with Amalek from generation--generation.'
In the bible days and even now we use banners or flags to denote depict and discern our affiliation to a nation.
All of the people under the banner are supposed to be one. The worse thing in the world is for a house to fight against itself. Things will go south real quick when a house is divided against itself. But here the children of Israel under Moses' leadership are going out to battle to fight against the Amalekites. And Moses in verse two said Exodus 17:9-13 (NCV)
9 So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some men and go and fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill, holding the walking stick of God in my hands.“
10 Joshua obeyed Moses and went to fight the Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill.
11 As long as Moses held his hands up, the Israelites would win the fight, but when Moses put his hands down, the Amalekites would win.
12 Later, when Moses’ arms became tired, the men put a large rock under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ hands—Aaron on one side and Hur on the other. They kept his hands steady until the sun went down.
13 So Joshua defeated the Amalekites in this battle
As long as Moses held up the rod the staff that God gave him to rule with the Israelites were winning. That means that when Moses got tire his number two and three men were right there sharing the load and kept Moses' arms held up. And Israel defeated the Amalekites The story goes that
Exodus 17:14 (NCV)
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write about this battle in a book so people will remember. And be sure to tell Joshua, because I will completely destroy the Amalekites from the earth.“ Write about this battle put it in the archives in the scripture so people will know that when we cooperate and are obedient great things happen.
Exodus 17:15 (YLT)
15 and Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,
Jehovah Nissi is His name when I've got to fight my battles If I put His banner over me, in other words if I put His flag over me
The Lord My Banner God's flag God's Banner God's symbol God's sign then I'm going to win. I'm going to be successful and I'm going to be victorious.
Then there is
13. Jehovah Gibbor Milchamah
Mighty In Battle
Psalm 24:8
Psalm 24:7-10 (KJV)
7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who isthis King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
Listen to me when you're up against enemies you need Jehovah Gibbor Mighty In Battle The story goes that David is bringing back the Ark of the Covenant where the Ten Commandment are stored. And David is singing an Antiphonal Psalm in Psalms 24 It's a call and response type of thing like we do in the black church worship experience. Antiphonal 2x
Let's go through it In verses 1&2 the Levitical Chorus sings Psalm 24:1-2 (AMP)
1
THE EARTH is the Lord's, and the fullness of it, the world and they who dwell in it.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the currents and the rivers.
Then after the Levites and the people would sing those scriptures together then
In verse 3
The leader would ask the next question
Psalm 24:3 (AMP)
3 Who shall go up into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His Holy Place?
Then the Levitical singers and the people would answer.
Psalm 24:4 (AMP)
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted himself up to falsehood or to what is false, nor sworn deceitfully. This is some powerful stuff because it denotes and depicts that the psalms emphasize the fact that to worship God means going up higher. And that God's Son sits on the throne in the heavenly Zion (2:6), and the mercy seat on the ark was God's throne in the earthly Zion. Now listen 3x The Levites carrying the ark had to be ceremonially clean, and likewise God's people must be clean if they wish to worship the King and please Him. "Clean hands" speak of righteous conduct Isaiah 1:15-16 (NCV)
15 When you raise your arms to me in prayer, I will refuse to look at you. Even if you say many prayers, I will not listen to you, because your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash yourselves and make yourselves clean. Stop doing the evil things I see you do. Stop doing wrong.
And then there is the phrase a "pure heart" which means having a godly character and holy motives Matthew 5:8 (KJV)
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
(Matt. 5:8). "Vanity" refers to the worship of idols ("worthless things") and "swearing deceitfully" to all kinds of deception, especially false witness in court.
Back to the text in Psalms 24 then the leader answer this antiphonal Psalm in by saying Psalm 24:4-6 (KJV)
4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.
Ooo oo this gets me exited because if you look at it careful and prayerfully you'll discover that the scriptures give us the answer right after the question. and and and it's all on purpose. God never hap-hazardously inspires mankind to write important life changing scripture.. No No No God is intentional.
In this antiphonal Psalm the Levitical singers would say in Psalm 24:7 (KJV)
7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
And the Leader would respond with a ultimate question
Psalm 24:8 (KJV)
8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Jehovah Gibbor
Milchamah the Lord Mighty in Battle
Verse 7 refers us to The gates of Jerusalem being opened outward, so what is meant by "be lifted up"? Certainly there would be plenty of headroom for the Levites to carry in the ark, and it wouldn't be required to raise the lintels of the gates. Simply translated it means, "Open wide the portals," that is, "Give a hearty welcome to the Lord!"
And brothers and sisters Bringing in the ark may have been to remind David of what Moses and the leaders of Israel sang when the ark was carried in the wilderness.
Verse 8 Who is the King of Glory. I'll tell you who 3x Jehovah Gibbor Milchamah
David was commanding the whole city to welcome the Lord and give honor to Him. The King of Glory is also "the Lord of Hosts,"
All I'm saying is these are some powerful
Scriptures. Jehovah Gibbor When you're in a trouble from enemies you need Jehovah Gibbor.
LET'S PRAY
Father God I praise and thank you because You are Mighty in Battle. You don't leave me to war on my own, but You take up the sword and fight on my behalf..
Ooo Weee another blessing and another powerful name of God Jehovah Gibbor
II The Names Of God Series
14.Jehovah- Tzidekenu
The Lord our Righteousness
Jeremiah 33:16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.
NCV16 At that time Judah will be saved,
and the people of Jerusalem will live in safety.
The branch will be named:
The Lord Does What Is Right.”[1]
To begin with Jeremiah 33 is a powerful text in that it teaches talks and tells us about Jehovah- Tzidekenu, The Lord Our Righteousness. The text says Yahweh is the God gets things done. He is the God that has plans to make sure they happen. God tells Jeremiah in Jeremiah 33:2 call me up and ask me and I’ll tell you my secret plans.
God said in verse 6 despite Jerusalem’s bad behavior and backsliding spirit I the Lord will cure and heal Jerusalem’s wounds. I will restore Jerusalem’s fortunes and riches. I will cleanse Jerusalem Judah and Israel from their sins and wrongdoing. I’ll forgive their sins and rebelling spirit against me said the Lord.
In Verses 9-11 God says in essence the world will stand in awe with the amount of good I’m going to bestow upon Israel and Judah. And once more you will hear the sounds of vitality and life in the cities, towns villages. You will hear shouts of joy saying, “Give thanks to Yahweh Almighty because God is good. Because His Loyal Love lasts forever. The people are singing shouting and testifying as they bring “Thank Offerings” to God’s temple. In other words when you go to church you ought to bring an offering and thank God for his goodness.
God said I’ll restore the country’s wealth and fortunes and riches. God said I’ll fix it so that you’ll have the riches that you use to have. (That’s a shouting moment!) God said I’ll fix the conditions for your prosperity.
Then God says in verse 12-13 Once again I will be in this place.
And in verse 14-18 it gets real specific God said I will bring forth the realization of the promise(Covenant) made between Me and my servant David who will do what is right all over the country.
Then God said at that time Judah will enjoy salvation, while Jerusalem will live securely, and here’s the part- This will be called Jehovah-Tzidekenu, The Lord Our Righteousness. 3x.
God said: “hear the word of the Lord”, “The Line of David will not lack a male representative who sits on the throne in Israel”. Then God said neither will the priests of Levi lack having a male representative who are in my presence, who offer whole offerings, burns grain offerings, and perform temple sacrifices according to my specifications.
15. Jehovah Ezrah
My Helper
Psalm 27:9 NIV
Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my savior.
When you’re in trouble and you have enemies, you need the Help of Jehovah Ezrah. No matter who you are you’re going to be faced with some sort of opposition, some sort of criticism, some sort of negative comments or gestures, and some sort of unnecessary and unfounded wicked plots against you. Rich or poor or somewhere in between you will have some sort of enemies. As a Christian, as a believer, as a Child of God having enemies just goes with the territory.
David the writer of this famous Psalm, Psalms 27, says in essence I’m not going to worry or fear because God is my helper. Psalm 27:1 Teaches talks and tells us that the Lord is my light no matter how much darkness surrounds me, The Lord is my light. And God is my salvation; Whom shall I fear? God is more powerful than any force in this world, so why am I being afraid. The Lord is the strength of my life; whom shall I be afraid of ?
David is saying in essence ‘I don’t care how many of y’all are my enemies, I’ve got God on my side. And because I have God on my side, I’m not going to live in fear of you. David said I’ve got Jehovah Ezrah. (My Helper). The Lord takes care of me, look after me, keeps me safe and protected. David says my God will not hide His face from me. My God won’t throw me away to my enemies, even when he gets mad with me, He won’t give me to my enemies. David said that all through my situation, my God Jehovah Ezrah has been my Help. David said oh God please don’t leave me, because I still need your help. David said my God please don’t ever forsake me because I can’t do any of this all alone all on my own, because O God, You are my Salvation.
Then here’s a final word of prayer on Jehovah Ezrah. Dear God, our Heavenly Father, when I think about all the Help I need, I am overwhelmed. When I think of the truth that You are My Helper my Jehovah Ezrah I am overjoyed and rejoice in the fact the you are here helping me, dear Father, And I thank you Lord, Amen.
16. Elah Yerushalem
God Of Jerusalem
Ezra 7:19 Deliver to the God of Jerusalem all the articles entrusted to you for worship in the temple of your God.
As we look at the names of God we find more interesting facts especially when presented with the name Elah Yerushalem.
The text gives specific reasons why we ought to mention this name of God as especially sacred. It was God wanting to dwell with us, and not just be the God of the universe. And to me that means that my problems are personal to God and because I have total access too the God of the universe I can ask for what I will and it will be granted to me according to His Will.
What intrigued me was how the text in Ezra 7:19 teaches talks and tells us about that great city Jerusalem. Anybody who has been in this world any length of time knows about the holy city of Jerusalem.Jerusalem was special even in the book of Genesis when the King of Salem (Jerusalem) was mentioned and Abraham went and paid tithes to Melchizedek. Melchizedek was an ancient king who the bible says had no beginning of days and no ending of days (This sounds eternal) It sounds other worldy.
Jerusalem has had a remarkable history and is still a hot focus point in worldly political affairs. Jerusalem is still a mecca for migrant Christians Jews and Islam religions. And These are the only three religions who believe in the Monotheistic concept of God. Means they believe in One God. That’s another lesson for another day.
Jerusalem is mentioned in the bible over 800 times. God chose Jerusalem to be the designated place where He would lower His voltage and dwell with mankind. It would be wonderful to get to go and visit Jerusalem and stand and kneel and praise in the places that God’s presence dwells. where Jesus the Very Son of God stood and performed miracle after miracle. And as sad as it was I’d like too go to the hill called Calvary Golgotha the place of the skull where they crucified Jesus Christ our Messiah.
Jerusalem was great because King Solomon built the Great Temple in Jerusalem. All that is left stand today is the wailing wall. But during biblical antiquity Jerusalem was God localized His presence.
Let’s pray Dear God our heavenly Father, The picture of steadfast love that you’ve shown to your people over the years in Jerusalem is truly an inspiring revelation of your love for us. Heavenly Father I appreciate your awesome power presence and provisions that you had provided for us who are believers. Amen.
17. Elohay- Selichot
The God Who Is Ready To Forgive
Nehemiah 9:17  And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion
appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not
We deserve a beating a whiping and even a killing but God is so good until even in the mist of our mess He continues to bless us and to forgive us. The story rehearsed was that of Israel’s extensive history especially from the bondage and slavery experience in Egypt. And Nehemiah a religious leader knew the history. And when you know your history, you can rehearse it and you don’t have to repeat the failures faults and flaws of your pass history. Nehemiah talk about Israel confessing their sins,
let’s pray , Father God when my sin makes me want to run and hide from you, help me remember that you are slow to anger and full of compassion, and that you offer full forgiveness of our sins. Thank you Lord we Bless Your Holy Name Elohay Selichot
Amen.
18. Gabahh
Transcendent The reason we cannot full understand God is because He is Transcendent. God is bigger that we can understand. Just the vastness of God’s nature, makes God incomprehensible.
Isaiah 55:8-9
8  For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
Neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts.
brothers and sisters The one thing I realized longgggg time ago was that if God is All powerful Omnipotent and because God is Omniscient All knowing, And because God is Omnipresent meaning He’s everywhere at the same time. Then that tells us that God has certain immutable attributes that he does not share with any of us.
Answer this question if you and I could be equal with God then we would be able to create the universe and maintain it. And that’s one of the many reasons that mankind can not wear the title of Transcendent. Mankind can not wrap his mind around the eternality of God. God has no beginning of days nor end of days. Jesus said I am Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end. the First and the last. God from everlasting to everlasting Thou art God.
I remember reading about the great transcendent Christ. Jesus took Peter James and John up into the mountain to pray and get away from the crowds. Upon that mountain Jesus Transformed into an Angelic Divine being that was sort of Docetic in Nature.... But a better term to use is the Monogahanes God 100% God and 100% Man at the same time. And as Jesus transformed There came Moses and Elijah in the midst. and without thinking Peter jump up and said Lord it’s good for us to be here. Let us make three tabernacles one for you one for Moses and one for Elijah.. And Just about this time the sky cracked open and Lighting and thunder started flashing and dashing. And God Himself spoke and said to the Living to Peter James and John Plus to the dead Moses and Elijah and said This is my beloved Son in whom I’m well pleased Hear ye Him.
In other words Peter James and John just because God the Son allows us to know Him You can’t comprehend the full knowledge of knowing Jesus the Christ.
and even when we go to heaven and the bible says the saints go before the throne of God Almighty and they rise and bow and say Hallelujah and for every time they goo down and come up it’s for a different reason to say Glory to God, Thank You Jesus Bless the Lamb The Transcendent Amen Amen Amen.
