Message Recap
We are on a series called Ascend. This message series was created to encourage us to Come Up Higher in our relationship with God and to encourage us in 21 Days of Prayer.
Last Week- Climb Out of Your Wilderness
I shared that all of us have been tempted with apathy.
Apathy- lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. Apathy becomes an unnessary weight that we carry though life often due to disappoints, unmet expectations, and discouragement.

1. Moses needed to unpack his apathy for God.

But the moment Moses ascended up the mountain and drew closer, God speaks to Moses and reveals himself to him.
As we unpack apathy, we will experience restored relationship, passion, and fear for the Lord.
Today, let see what else Moses needed to unpack out of his life, so he could get out of his wilderness.
Message

Exodus 3:10-11 Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.” 11But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”

Prayer
Moses, unlike his early days in Egypt, has learnt to distrust himself so thoroughly that he will incur God’s anger (Exod. 4:14
He lost his confidence. Had you looked at Moses resume you would have said perfect guy for the job.
Who am I? This is not an existential question, but an expression of disbelief (cf. Judg. 6:15). Moses, unlike his early days in Egypt, has learned to distrust himself so thoroughly that he will incur God’s anger (Exod. 4:14).

Self-distrust is good, but only if it leads to trust in God.

Otherwise it ends as spiritual paralysis, inability and unwillingness to undertake any course of action.

2. Moses needed to unpack his insecurity.

Moses, like Elijah (1 Kgs 19), is a picture of a man who has had a ‘nervous breakdown’, and is now unwilling to work for God at all.
Forty years of Apathy had caugth up with him. Apathy- lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. He had in the past had his security in himself. Now he has self distrust, would he trust God.
Moses needed to unpack his insecurity.
Example: Unpacking an unnecessary wieght. Reach in and grab the mirror. I don’t need a mirror to go hiking. It is so unnecessary.

12God answered, “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain.”

God doesn’t even answer Moses’ question, God puts the focus to be on Himself, I am with you.

God’s identity is more important than our identity.

When we know the God who is with us, we can step forward confidently to do His will.

God’s really going to Egypt, we are tagging along.
I want you notice something, if I dont unpack the unecessary weight of insecurity, even though I unpacked the apathy, I will never get out of my wilderness, because I will know that I have missed an important aspect of my life that God wants me to fulfill.
I want to return to another thought.

Exodus 3:10-11 Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.”

I am sending you. The apostolic commission of Moses.

There is no contradiction between God’s announced intention of working in person and his sending Moses: God normally works through the willing obedience of his servants, accomplishing his will.
This passage may well have been in Christ’s mind when he gave a similar apostolic commission to his disciples in New Testament days (John 20:21). So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”
I want us to think about something, if this is Moses’ commission and Jesus said the same thing to His disciples and to us, and its our commission as well. Who is waiting for you and I to get out of our apathy and insecurity to they can be set free.
When Pastor TJ was here, I believe God was speaking through him to our church. That God was recommisioning us as a church.
Story Lyndon B. Johnson
Our 36th President, Lyndon B Johnson was touring Nasa and while he was watching this man who was a janitor, mop the floor with vigor and purpose. The president walked up to him and said sir I believe your the best janitor I have ever seen. He said sir I’m not a janitor, I’m helping to send a man to the moon.
We arent just stay at home moms, trademan, or just a volunteer, teenagers, or just small group leaders, or just greeters.

Let’s unpack our insecurity, because we are helping to send people to heaven.

Unpack your insecurity and know the Holy Spirit is with you.

Luke 12:11-12 “And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what to say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.”

* God will do great things through me if decide to climb out of wilderness.
Example: The Holy Spirit is my Comforter(sleeping bag) and my Guide(GPS or On X Hunt).
What I really need to pack is my sleeping bag and On X Hunt App.
13But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”
3. Moses needed to unpack his lost authority.
Moses needed to let go of his past failures. For 40 years was he running from his mistakes?
I’m disqualified. 40 years in the wilderness took away his self-reliance.
He lost his authority, because he didn’t remain under the authority of God.
Example: Hunting license
I’m not going on my own authority, I had to have my hunting license and tags to give me authority to hunt in Colorado. I carry around an app on my phone and with a card in my wallet that shows that I have authority to go and hunt elk.
14God replied to Moses, “I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.
15God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.
God gives you and I another another chance. We have authority in Jesus name.
You and I have a decision, are we going to unpack whats holding us back.
Apathy Insecurity Loss of Authority
So that we can ascend to high spiritual levels and go places we never dreamed.
Ministry time- Maybe you need to unpack your apathy, your insecurity, and lost authority.
Jesus packed on the cross our apathy, insecurity and our loss of authority so we could be
- Passionate for Him
- Have security in him.
- His Authority (power)
Salvation call- Maybe your here this morning and you have had apathy to a relation ship with God , but today you want to get rid of your apathy and give your life to Jesus. Would you life your hand?
