Transcript
The Holy Spirit is as much God as The Father or the Son is.
1 God-head, the persons, three offices.
Sometimes things can be attritubed to the work of the holy spirit, yet those things are not always found in scripture under his title.
Could the holy spirit do something that isnt listed in scripture?
But the bible says that there are spirits that may not be the holy spirit or from God, and that we should test them.
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
THE ONLY WAY WE CAN KNOW WHAT TO TEST, IS IN GODS WORD.
Lets look at some things that the Holy Spirit does;
He inspired the writing of scripture. Past tense
2 Samuel 23:1–3; John 16:13; 2 Peter 1:21
2. He illuminates scripture to us.
10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.
3. He exalts Christ.
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
He isnt teaching anything new. You’ll notice that Pauls writings closely resemble the other writers and it all resembles Jesus’ words, which was basically the Old Testament spit back at us.
4. He convicts men of sin
8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
5. He calls (or draws) men to christ. He effects regeneration.
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
If this is true, and 6/7 are true, and John 16 where the holy spirit will point us to christ is true, then the holy spirit is the one that calls and draws. There is no verse that says the holy spirit does this. its reasoning.
6. spiritually baptizes a believer at regeneration

7. Seals believers
a. the guarantee of Philippians 1:6
4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
7. cultivates character
13 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.
8. comforts believers
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
I think about this attribute when thinking about the christians that have been martyrs over the years. The holy spirit is actively comforting them.
9. Bestows spiritual gifts
7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
11. Enlightens and empowers the believer
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
