W.A. Guy
OBIT............W. A. Guy, 87 of Cantonment, FL walked into HIS loving arms on August 18, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 7, 1934, in Frisco City, AL, to both his parents, William and Mattie Guy. W.A. met the love of his life Pat and they were married on December 28, 1960, just 3 months after they had met. They were married for 62 years.
They were blessed to have six children, David (Connie), Rita, Scott (Debbie), Tracey, Mandi (Chris), Amy (Jeremy); he had 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
He spent four years active duty in the Army as a medic, as well as several more years in the Reserves. W. A. spent the rest of his days touching the lives of everyone he met. He was loved by all including those who left this world before him. W. A. will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him.
Our Hero, Our Daddy.
One thing can be said truly, is that you can tell a lot about a person’s life by how they are cared for when they are down. Family, I believe we can say job well done!
That made me think of a verse I have often used at funerals....Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise (anything praiseworthy), think on these things.”
This verse I believe is speaking of Jesus Christ and the fullness of the Godhead that dwelt in Him, because of the verses prior, verse 6-7, Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. “
The “peace of God will keep your hearts and minds” in verse 8 we read of things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report.”
However, I don’t like to make Scripture something that is not, but I do believe there is an element of truth for us when we our loved one passes from this life to the glorious next life.
The key phrase here in the text is “if there is any praise” meaning if there is anything praiseworthy, think on those things.
I believe that W.A. left a lot of things praiseworthy behind for you the family and all us to make us smile and help heal the hurt of his passing!
Scott told me yesterday about a man that loved his family, he worked hard for them, cared for them, and enjoyed them!
I had something that came to my mind about life and death some time back. It was about missing folks and what it truly means when you say “I am going to miss them!”
To say that, whether to yourself or to others, that holds a lot of weight! It means that the person that is gone made that big of an impact on you, that their passing will leave a void!
That might seem sad and sorrowful to some, but in my view that is what is praiseworthy! W.A. cared about you so much, that it had an huge impact on you!
In turn, you had such an impact on him, for him to return the same!
Nothing, in my view is more praiseworthy than that! I am sure that there were some bad times, especially at the end with his health, but the things that are praiseworthy about your relationship with W.A. is what has value!
We could always ask Why or say “if I could had another day”, but all those lead to misery and constant sorrow! Think on the good things, the good memories, God by His Grace gave you those good things to dwell on!
So, think in those things!
Finally, as I said earlier that that verse is speaking of Jesus Christ! That truth to think on is the greatest truth!
I told Scott yesterday, every time I saw his dad, he had a smile on his face. Scott said, that was because when I saw him, it was at church. Then Scott said “he loved the Lord!”
Because of W.A.’s faith in the Person and Complete Work of Jesus Christ, he is with the one Whom he loved! That smile is greater than ever, now!
That is something to think or dwell on, is it not?
I like what the apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 3:20-21 “For our citizenship is in Heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.”
That body that failed W.A. has been changed into a glorious body, that of a resurrected body, freed from the prison of limitations, by the power of Jesus Christ and His perfect life, His perfect sacrifice on the cross for our sins, and by His resurrection from the grave!
To go along with that Romans 8:18 packs a powerful truth: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
The sufferings on this earth are like a fly buzzing around our head in comparison to the glory that will be revealed in us! Us, W.A, those that that belong to Jesus!
No wonder they wrote that song: “What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see.......There’ll be no sorrow There, no more burdens to bear, no more sickness, no pain, no more parting over there, and forever I will be with the One Who died for me, what a glorious day that will be!”
Well, W.A. is experiencing that now with the One that died for him! W.A. no longer has to hope for that day, he is living in that day!!!
1 Corinthians 15:54-57............................John 14:1-3......................
2 things we can move away from this day back into our normal routines with:
Good memories of W.A. to think/dwell on.....
And a Savior Jesus Christ our Lord to believe in and to dwell with!!
