Doubt
Doubt
Doubt? We all have done it. We all do it still. Some more than others.
We even have some of our biblical heroes who did it.
Some would be Examples:
Moses, Aaron, and Miriam
Ex 3:1-10 God calls Moses
Moses displays doubt Ex 3: 11
But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?”
Again in vs 13
Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?”
Again 4:1
Then Moses said, “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”
Miriam & Aaron Doubt Numbers 12: 1-2a
Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (for he had married a Cushite woman);
and they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us as well?” And the Lord heard it.
Look at the pattern from here. Miriam here is mimicking Eve. Gen 3:6
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
Aaron just like Adam should have stepped up here and spoke against what Miriam was doing. But, he also had doubt that what God had said was accurate.
Miriam and Aaron doubt God has placed them in the right position.
How many times have we doubted what we felt the Spirit leading us to do?
Here they think they should be on equal terms with Moses. What about us doubting whether we are capable of doing what God has led us to do? Or placed us in the position to do?
What it boils down to is this.
Who are we doubting?
Is it ourselves as Moses claimed? Who am I that...
Or like Miriam and Aaron: We should be prophets as well God does not see us for what we are capable of?
Just as Moses and Aaron were called so are we.
Ex 19:5-6 ‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”
And Peter reiterates this in
1 Ptr 2:9-10 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY.
Some Consequences that followed:
Moses was not allowed to enter the promised land.
Miriam was separated from the people for 7 days with leprosy.
Once again I ask who Are we doubting?
When we feel that the Spirit is prompting us to move or speak to someone do we really think we are doubting only ourselves?
Nathan mentioned Matthew 28:19-20 last week. Can someone show me where that command was ever rescinded? We are called as believers to be the face of Christ that others see. We are also called to be the hands and feet in today's culture. We should not isolate from culture, we should be immersed in it. Not allowing it to change us, but being salt and light to the world we live in.
Commands:
Duet 6:13 “You shall fear only the LORD your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name.
17-18 “You should diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and His testimonies and His statutes which He has commanded you. “You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to give your fathers
Eph 6:10-20 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Prov. 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
How to conquer Doubt! S.T.E.P. (borrowed from Moody Radio)
S= Start and end every day with prayer. They do not have to be long and eloquent, just heart felt and honest. As a child to their Father.
T= Thanks giving. Be thankful for all that He has allowed you to go through. Blessings and trials.
E= Exchange thoughts of doubt for prayer. Ask for His strength to sustain and give you strength.
P= Practice the presence of God. Dwell in His presence. Allow Him to fill your mind and invade you very core.
