Similar to but an Increase from the Royal Supper – man becomes King!

23 When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and elders came up to him. They demanded, “By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?”

1 Jesus also told them other parables. He said,
2 “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son.
· King = Father
o Jesus immediately points to His authority – God = King of kings
o Prepare = G4160 – make ready, appoint, celebrate
· Wedding feast = wedding reception
o a wedding was a very sacred and joyous event
o Some last up to or more than a week
o After wedding takes place
o marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 20?) Christ and the church = believers
o begins the millennial age
o when God’s people will enjoy fellowship with the Messiah in His fully inaugurated kingdom (compare Rev 19:6–10).[1]
· Timeline – feast is prepared NOW – before we get to heaven
· Son = Jesus
Wedding feast! = good thing – something to look forward to

3 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come!
God offer the Kingdom to His people = Jews
· Ready = end of time – the time is NOW
· Servants = prophets, pastors, evangelists
· Notify = preaching
· Guests = Jews
· Invited =
· Refused = invitation was ignored!
o Shocking insult to the host who did everything!
o All the guests had to do was accept the invitation!
o Reactions today toward the Gospel – would rather do other things - not interested

4 “So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘The feast has been prepared. The bulls and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!’
· Other servants = prophets in every age
· Feast = banquet? Why a different word?
· Prepared =
· Ready =
· Come =
5 But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business.
· Ignored = huge insult to the King!
· Went own way = indifference
6 Others seized his messengers and insulted them and killed them.
· Seized = hostility
· Messengers = prophets, John the Baptist, Jesus Himself, 12 Apostles – Live stream!
· Insulted = beat - persecution
· Killed = murdered – martyred – even Jesus

7 “The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town.
Furious = enraged
King sends out an army at the beginning of a wedding reception!
Burned – Jerusalem destroyed by Titus of Rome in AD 70
Opting out of God’s invitation is not an option

o Jesus was predicting Israel’s’ rejection of Him – their own bridegroom!
